I was too young to really know what was going on. I clearly remember the day he took office, though. I was in third grade, it was lunch time, and the staff had tv's in the cafeteria to watch him swear in.

sorry to hear...didn't know much about him, as i was born in '71.

i do always recall seeing him and the other living presidents together at national functions, which i always thought was kinda cool..today there was a photo on the comcast home page, from 1981..Reagan as prez, sharing a toast with carter, Ford, and Nixon on the eve of their departure for Egypt for the Sadat funeral. I thought the photo was very interesting, and it reminded me as to how rare it is to see a serving president standing alongside his predecessor(s). Like them or not, forget the politics for a sec, it is pretty cool.

Seems like a good honest guy. im with the other guys though, i barely remember Regan.. being born in '83

but 93 years old?!? Lucky guy. cant ask for more than that. Regan made 93 also (though 10 years was terrible for him from his alzheimers (sp))

THose are impressive sights.

Wasn't there a similar photo of Ford, Carter, GHWBush, GWBush, and Clinton as well? I seem to recall that it was the only time 5 Presidents were together at once (or something to that effect)

I too am sad to see him go, but I wonder if the orginal poster of this thread intentionally didn't capitalize "ford" in the title -- seeing as how this is a Chevy kind of forum?

It wasn't intentional it was my horendous typing skills. I liked and respected President Ford.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that there was any disrespect on your part. I just though it would bring a bit of levity to a very sad subject. I too deeply respected President Ford. It would have been an unimaginable task to take that office in the aftermath that Nixon left behind.

No need to appologize. I didn't take it in a bad way.

On a serious note AOL had a thing on those famous that have died this year, the list is great and the list is long. I myself have been to 3 family funerals this year, I am ready for 06 to end.

I'd still like to know why did Ford pardon Nixon for his crimes in Watergate?

This was before my time but I still recall in history class how Nixon pretty much "got off easy" and "got away with murder" due to Ford's pardon and that's what killed Ford's chances at winning the 1976 election.
