If anyone thought they had an ugly frame to work with, check this out. I'm getting it ready for gavanizing, repairing any damage (note the patch) and reworking the body mount holes. We also found that it was bent at the rear (you can see it in the pics)so it we'll straighten it also. We clamped a 20ft length of 3/8 x 1" iron in the center as a reference for measurements.

That's not bad, a little elbow grease and it'l look like new. Galvanized, cool! Been following 454's (english for FO_FDYFO) work on his car uh? Sure wish I had the room to do something like that. Make sure you post pics after it's been dipped. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Yeah, Pete Lohr's web site convinced me. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he only lives 20 miles from me here in Northern Virginia. The cost is less than sand blasting and the result is better. Paint, at that point, is purely cosmetic. So there's really no reason not to do it if you have access to the service. Many people across the country do, they just don't realize it. BTW - the body was so badly eaten up that I bought a donor and I am swapping it. Still need to replace quarters and the trunk floor.

I thought when I sold my boat the money pit syndrome was over. Oh well. Does this mean I'm a real Chevelle owner now? graemlins/clonk.gif

Hey Herb, I live in southern Virginia and was wonder if you knew of any place around my area that could dip my frame. What part of Northern Virginia are you talking about? Is this something they could do in one day? Also was wondering what the cost is to dip a fram. Thanks James

James,

Look here http://www.einstyn.com/ on Pete Lohr's (FO_FYDY_FO) web site on the Frame Mods page. If it's galvanizing you want, Pete get's his done at Virginia Galvanizing in Ashland by Richmond. The contact info is on Pete's web site. Should only be 2 or 3 hrs drive from you. Pete says it costs around $200. That's where mine is going.

Anybody who can't see the benefits of this over ALL other types of frame rust treatment might not be thinking right.
