I'm not sure if this is the right place to be asking this but i'm thinking about selling my 71 chevelle, and don't know what to ask for it. I was just wondering if someone could tell me what they think it's worth....roughly.

The car:

Good interior...no rips or anything...all new

Body in good shape...2 small dots of rust on door....rear bottom corner... otherwise rust free

Has $400 digital dash..power drivers seat...interior from a t-bird...not sure what year

Shocks all around....no springs
Open 10bolt rear end with 3.08 or lower numerically Don't know what type of axels

225/60/r15 rally's and new...but poor quality tires...$60 each lol oh well

excellent underbody and very clean under hood

I guess that pretty much describes her. I'd appreciate any responses/estimates.

Touchy subject.

No, not the right place.

What is the serial number? For real?
What's this about a digital dash?
What does your professional evaluator say? The car was insured, so it must be evaluated.

This item should be in tag team or restoration, but why not. Let's take a look.

Now ... the Old Cars Price Guide (a book for evaluators) says:
http://www.firsttraderegistry.com/old_cars_price_guide.htm

Chevelle Chevelle 2-door hard top

Class 1 : $17,000 (Trailer queen - doesn't exist)
Class 2 : $11,900
Class 3 : $6,800
Class 4 : $3,400

Chevelle Malibu 2-door hard top

Class 1 : $22,000 (Trailer queen - verrry few exist)
Class 2 : $15,400
Class 3 : $8,800
Class 4 : $4,400

Which ever, yours appears to be very clean, but will only go class 4. Class 3 if you can prove it is NOT driven often.

This is all a lot of guessing. How many miles? How much rust? What is original? What is not original?

Yours is a plain Jane Chevelle? With a new interior? Probably a Malibu interior? I'm guessing, it is not very original, wthout the original motor. You would have to prove this with the cowl tag and VIN.

$6,000 American if it is very good - like it or not. I spoke to a guy in Ontario last night. He wanted $6,000 Canadian for basically a class 5. Get serious. He wanted his money back no doubt, thinking he would make a buck on his depreciated Bondo queen.

That should get the thread bubbling with comments.

well it's just insured under storage right now with comprehensive. So the insurance company didn't look very close at it. They took pictures and everything naturally, and they asked me what i want it insured for...if they like the price they agree and that's what it's set at. I didn't actually have it appraised. think i should? I told them $4500 just for what you see in the pic. No engine or trans. Does that sound like a good price or did i screw myself? lol just wondering.

What do you think i should ask?

thanks for the responses

so malibu's are, generally speaking, worth more huh? wow

Were you interested in buying the car drptop70ss if i'm selling it? just wondering. I'll probably keep it though.

thanks again

It is an honest to goodness Malibu? No motor? Get a professional appraisor to look it over, not just take pictures. The market is good for that car, as long as it is NOT full of bondo. Then again there are lots of guys trying to sell lost causes for as much - but they are disappointing themselves.

Looks like a decent project car but honestly I have never had to spend close to $4500 for a malibu project car, even a clean one. If the interior was good I normally get cars like that for $2000-$2500, usually much less. SS cars of course bring more.
