: Any pictures of Mist Blue cars?
fmj355 Oct 11th, 01, 12:39 PM My 66 trim tag says Mist Blue, but the car has been repainted and I think it may be Marina Blue or a close variation. The interior and trunk aren't quite the same as the exterior. All the cars on this site listed as Marina Blue look very close to my present body color, but I need to see a Mist Blue one to compare and I can't find one.

Doug Yoder has one of the BEST 66 SS cars in the country and one of the few 66 SS MIST BLUE cars out there...there are some Malibus around but a Mist Blue 66 SS is seldom seen, as are those other color 66's...oh what is it now.....Oh yeah...Danube Blue http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

fmj355 Oct 11th, 01, 4:15 PM Thanks Mike,
It's Mist Blue alright, maybe just a hair off the correct shade, but seeing mist and marina side by side like that did the trick. I can't really see the firewall color on Yoder's car in that picture, but my firewall is body color which I understand is correct for Canadian built Malibus and I don't know if that is true for all Malibus. Not that I am building a letter perfect resto, but I like the look of the light firewall and I wanted to stick with the same color. It seems strange that GM would have two colors that were so close in the same year.

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Oct 11th, 01, 4:20 PM No, Dougs firewall is like mine..Black as it should be. Only Canadian ones, malibu or SS would have Body color firewall and even trunk compartment. and believe me, side by side, the Marina Blue and Mist Blue are very diffrent if painted correct.
good luck have fun!

Just remember that Marina Blue = bright blue, Mist Blue = light blue metallic. A friend's mother once owned a Marina Blue '66 Beaumont with medium blue cloth bench seat interior. You could see the contrast quite clearly, in fact as I recall GM refered to the Marina Blue exterior with light blue interior an acceptable combination (as opposed to a recommended combination). I guess you've never seen Artesian Turquoise with Fawn interior (I've seen a fair number like that; not a clash but almost).
Back in 1978 in my home town there was a really clean '66 SS396 in Mist Blue with very close matching medium blue all vinyl bench seat interior. With that and a column shift for the Powerglide I initially thought it was a fake. Actually it was an original unmolested U.S. car from the Carolinas (later the 396/'glide were pulled and swapped for a 350/th350)

I wasn't aware of this. My 66 SS is mist blue with a black vinyl top & interior. I never really thought about that color being rare before.

fmj355 Oct 12th, 01, 6:29 AM My mist blue exterior is matched up to this interior:728 - Dk. Blue Renville Cloth/
Med. Blue Imitation Leather.
My problem now is that the reproduction of this seat cover is $1000cdn ($600US) and the all vinyl cover is $400cdn ($250US). I'd like to have the cloth, but not that bad I don't think. I'm not sure which color vinyl to order as there seems to be more than one shade of blue available.
Also, can one of you guys recommend a reasonbly priced paint. I will need to respray some parts of the trunk myself, but I will get a pro to shoot the rest. My car will be a daily driver in a high scratch zone (community college parking lot). I am looking for durability , but not so expensive that I will freak out the first time some student bangs his door against it. I would rather be able to afford a respray in a few years than pay huge money now for some really georgeous paint.

Luis Oct 13th, 01, 5:40 AM Mike, up to what year was the fire wall painted body color on Canadian Chevelles? I saw a 1970 Forest Green Chevelle one time at the 12th Annual MCC show and the firewall was painted Forest Green. This Chevelle had PA plates. At that moment had 28K miles. The way that Chevelle was restored was not the like the ones I have seen. The hood latch was gold color. I have a Canadian built Chevelle but the fire wall is painted black.
Thanks!!
