Hey all,

I'm trying to plan out my next project: bodywork on the chevelle. Anyone who has done metalwork, I am trying to find the appropriate gauge sheetmetal to use for repairs(I have heard anywhere from 16 to 22). For smoothing out the body lines I think the best choice is POR epoxy putty (as opposed to bondo). Which primer is a good choice to cover the filler and surrounding clean metal? Something from PPG? It may be years before I can paint the entire car so I need something that will protect each section as I comlete it.

Also, the patches will be relatively small and was I considering alternatives, found some info on two types of body panel adhesive:

Anyone ever try these products?

thanks much,
Dan

I put patch panels behing each wheel on my car. We glued the on with fusor 108b and then smoothed out the line with fiberglas putty first, the plastic filler, then glaving putty, and you can't even tell that they are there. We used bought patch panels, so I don't know what guage they were, and also we used ppg epoxy primer on the putty and bare metal.

Cut a patch panel using the same thickness and butt weld it COMPLETELY.

I keep an old car/truck hood around to cut out metal patches. It's the best metal you can find!
