: Cracked A-pillars
rbushner Sep 14th, 00, 9:00 AM Please forgive my ignorance, bodywork has never been one of my strong points.
My current project's A-pillars are both cracked. (I'm not sure this is what they are called but the pics should make it clear). Is this repairable and/or worthwhile to repair? Why would they crack like this?
This car is a 72 SS(clone) wagon. The car will be a driver (but not daily).

Any comments are appreciated...

BAD415 Sep 14th, 00, 9:55 AM It looks like the spot they joined the top to the pillars. I'd say it was caused by age and stress. From what I've seen its a pretty common occurance. It can be fixed. IMO all Chevelles are worth saving, but thank goodness for the "parts cars".
CranberryRed Sep 14th, 00, 11:12 AM They are cracked on mine as well, when I stripped the car down to bare metal, this apperas to be a joint where the roof was welded onto the pillars. Mine was filled with body filler, which is what was showing the cracks. Body man says easy to fix.

YenkoYS100 Sep 14th, 00, 8:39 PM A common occurance on these types of cars. This is where the roof is seamed to the pillar. GM finishes them off with lead. Over the years, bad roads, weather, frame flexing horsepower, etc., the body flexes and the lead cracks. No big deal to fix.

rbushner Sep 15th, 00, 8:31 AM Thanks everyone, I feel better now. I've been worried that I've been spending all this time on the motor/trans and I'd have to toss the body. I thought I'd see whether this was something fixable before I spend more time/$$$ on the project.
Dean - looks like you've got your work cut out for you.
Thanks all

Now I feel a lot better about my car. (That's one's probably a parts car though, right?)
