Well I got the car home today. It was a great feeling to get it back but the years and previous owners were not kind to it. You will see what I mean in the pics. It is a great but depressing day for me. Anyways, if anyone has any Camaro parts send me a PM or email. I need just about everything. Enjoy the pics.

Wish I had a five car garage at my house! The car looks like it was stored in a chicken coupe. That's how my Nova looked when I picked it up. The car is actually still pretty complete. A little sheet metal, a little paint, some interier work, you'll be good to go in no time! It's always good to see family members again, I'm glad you found it. Good luck and have fun restoring it. Unfortunately, the only spare part I have for Camaro is the 3-piece rear wing.

I have a Z/28 hood. Not sure what year it is, but definitely between 77-81.
Does the 77 Z/28 have the fiberglass scoop? (looks like a teardrop)

Get that car washed up and you'll feell alot better about it.
It doesn't really look that bad.
You will need to replace both rear quarters. That will be the worst of it. Unless your rear frame rails are rusted out too.

I've always wanted a black 78 Z/28 with the orange/red/yellow stripe package. Very cool.

I always liked the '77 Z/28. It was a welcome return after being discontinued after '74 and the single exhaust with cats that followed. The '77 was a nice handling package with a sweet exhaust note from the factory, plus decend rear gearing (3.42 with auto and/or a/c; 3.73 for 4-speed w/o air). Transmissions were very good, with either a solid Warner Super T10 or a decently beefed TH350. It could match the e.t & trap speeds of a similarly equipped '71 model, which is surprising since it was using a nothing-special LM1 350.

The '77 models were relatively scarce compared to the later models. It marked the first use of color-keyed bumpers front and rear. They used the teardrop decal on the hood for '77; for '78 they started using the fiberglass low-profile teardrop fake scoop (it dissappointed me because I felt that the later fake scoop was a bit tacky and potentially added wind drag). The '78s and later did have however sweet looking tri-color taillamps and nicely done rear bumpers that shaved 50 pounds off the rear.

I don't really know what the restoration parts situation is for these cars. For so long they have been taken for granted and flogged.

I still have the '77 Camaro brochure that I got in '77, but the Z wasn't in it (announced at the Chicago Auto Show in Feb '77). Somewhere I do have a Motor Trend road test and a Hot Rod road test from '77, plus an ad in a Hot Rod featuring a dark brown '77 Z with yellow/orange striping. I shudder to think of how much stuff I have to move to try and dig it out though.

In the meantime, attached is the spec sheet that made it to the salemen back in '77 (I borrowed it from the web back in '98 but I can't remember where)

It'll be wrorth the work when it's done. The story with it is what makes to so special.

Looks like you have a little work to do, but it will be well worth the work! Especially with the cars history! Have fun and enjoy bringing Dads' Z back to it's former glory! By the way, CAN I COME OVER AND PLAY IN YOUR GARAGE!!!

Congrats!

Have you checked out this threqad on the Nasty Z28 Forum? Its about 20 pages dealing specifically with the 1977 Z28s. Seems the '77's have quite a following. :D
Lots of good info there.

The garage is always open, come on over.

The interior is getting gutted. It is musty/moldy and there were an army of mice in it. The was alot of mice droppings throughout and I am concerned on a health standpoint. Hopefully I can find a good black interior from a donor car to swap in. The good plastic pieces will be scrubbed and reused.

I've been following that thread for a long time. Lots of good info to be had there.

are you planning on surprising your dad with it, or is this car for you?

Dad knows everything. I bought the car and technically it will be mine. Truth is it will always be HIS car. He still hasn't seen it. I told him about it and he said WE have more work to do than WE planned on. I liked the we and not you. He said It would be a great 1st car for my oldest son.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like those body styles, first time I got pulled over by the cops was in a Z28. I didn't get a ticket though, I told him I just got my permit and my cousin was showing me around the neighborhood.

Nice cars...can make good sleeper cars too. Oh, I know the hood is going to be the first thing replaced right? ;)

Where did you find that car? Was it the "original" barn find?

What did you end up getting it for? $ wise.. Did the sentimental value kick in?

Lets just say I had to pay way more than it was worth to anyone else. Sentimental value kicked in. Like I have been told no other black 77 Z would be the same. It would always be "this is LIKE dads old car" and "in dads car we did the same thing". It never would have meant as much as this car.

That'll buff out :D

When the weather gets warmer, I'll ride up there and help you wrench on it! Great story, and I'm glad you got it back!
