: Sandblasting Floorpans?

I have a little rust on my floorpans but its kinda hard to get all the rust off with a wheel or by hand, some spots are just tough to get to. I was thinking about bringing it to a sandblasting place and getting them to blast the floorpans, really its just the drivers front that has rust the rest is great. How much would this cost?

I did some sandblasting on my chevelle and it goes every where . I am still cleaning sand out of the car. If its only surface rust and you can get the loose rust off, I would use a rust preventive paint like Por-15 or Rust Encapsulator. It will be alot easier in the long run and do a real good job. I used the Rust Encapsulator on my car and it works great. NOT A GOOD THING TO HAVE SAND THAT CAN BLOW INTO FRESH PAINT. Just my opinion.

I agree. I would just get as much of the loose rust off as you can, clean it really really well with some good degreaser like the purple stuff from HOme Depot, then lacquer thinner, then wax and grease remover, then paint it well with POR 15 or RE.

Agree, unless you are doing a complete frame-off, don't sand blast. Sand gets everywhere.

Brand name Easy-Off oven cleaner strips paint, rust and grease off metal. You have to let it sit for a good half hour before it drys and then rinse if off using a brush to help loosing the grime. It should strip it back to bare metal and its cheap, just keep it away from nice paint and aluminum. Good Luck,Joe.

You may be able to find a coarse bristled wire wheel that fits an angle grinder. I used this on the last project. Be careful as it will throw bristles out with a force that will penetrate your skin. Wear a face shiels and shirt sleeves.

The coarse wheel is great for under body and trunk also.
