: performer RPM package on a 327 in new CHP mag
sschevellefan Dec 19th, 06, 12:53 AM Has anyone else read that article? i just picked it up today. They used the RPM roller cam and made about 400hp and then added a RPM 100hp NOS shot and got 513hp. Now we all know that their dynos and the best and "most accurate" but how close would that package be in the real world?
Bomber '67 Dec 19th, 06, 1:29 AM That should be dead on what that combo would achieve. Very believable.

sschevellefan Dec 19th, 06, 1:44 AM Thanks Thomas. Since I`m stuck with small blocks and happen to have a couple 327`s lying around, the article was some really interesting reading.
kirkwoodken Dec 19th, 06, 1:51 AM Crane published a 327 dyno test around 1970, 250/260 degree Track roller, tunnel ram, ported "fuelie" style Chevy heads; made 440 ft. lbs torque. That number was attained by numerous lash loops and header tuning, but showed how important those two tuning phases can be. That's where dynos really shine.
forcd ind Dec 19th, 06, 6:47 AM i ran the perf rpm roller in a diff combo, with a procharger, really worked great
i have used the perf rpm package's b4, they work really well

"I just looked that article over a second time!!
They DIDN'T list the enigne's CR. as well as headgasket thickness!! I mention this b/c I figure that engine is only at like about 9.5 to 1 CR.?????
And I didn't find the advertised duration numbers EASILY for that hy-roller cam either..
I bet that cam really needs 11 to 1 CR. just like I figure the Performer RPM cam needs IF it is like a 288 or larger cam!!
Anybody have the advertised spec's on that cam so I can check??
pdq67
PS., an 800 cfm carb. on a 327 is a bit much, imho! BUT at least it is a vacuum secondary jobber which will help ...."
And a bit later................................
"A 308/318!!
Imho, a cam like that REALLY needs at least a minimum of 11 to 1 to run OK and probably 12 to 1 Would be great!!!"

sschevellefan Dec 19th, 06, 10:11 AM pdq, I saw that post over there but I thought that cam spec was for the regular rpm cam, not the roller. The guy that posted the specs listed the lift at .488/.510 and the roller is around .530 plus. I too noticed the lack of compression info and that it had a .023" deck height. I don`t think I would build the exact combo, I just thought I was a interesting article. It goes to show that even the little mouse can make big power.
