Looking for a good cheap degreaser for aluminum that won't stain.
Would wheel cleaner work?

Yup, Simple Green.
Best price I've found is Wal-Mart;
in the automotive section, not with the household cleaners.

Was gonna say Easy-Off oven cleaner, however I don't know it's effect on Aluminum. It does clean up a dirty engine bay great, though don't get it on any paint you wanna keep.
