Anyone want to take a shot on how I should fix this. I have some skill with a cutoff saw and mig welder. Just need a jump start in the right direction.

65, I'm in the same boat as you. I've already picked up the lower peice that goes all the way accross, looks simple enough, but I'm going to have to fab 1 whole side. My plan is to cut out the channel just below the body & overlap the new peice by about 1/8 inch so that the new pc is tucked under the original to give it the best possible chance of keeping out the elements in case my welds don't turn out that great! Also will por 15 the crap out of it and cover the whole mess with seam sealer, just in case. The corner i havent figured out yet, but my plan is to make 1 complete pc. for that. I'm not sure if this is the proper way of doing it, but my searches turned up limited info, & I need to get this done. Anyone else been here? please chime in.

I have a couple of spots on my car that I am going to have to work on. I was thinking of getting some sheet metal stock and a panel flanger from Eastwood. So when I do weld I wont have to run a big bead.

I have already replaced to bottom panel "trunk Filler" area with a new one. That one was fairly easy but lots of spot welds to drill out. My concern here is how much to cut out or just weld around the old. Also the corners are going to be tuff.

I have completed this repair in the past, you can do one of two things, buy the channel already formed, and cut out the old and mig in the new, or use your own sheet metal and cut out the old and weld in the new, on the corners you will have to cut slots in the channel so you can bend around these spots, then mig the cuts, or use some good water proof filler and level off and fill, when you are done and before the filler use a good epoxy primer that will seal the area before filling. My repair has lasted three years so far and shows no wear that it will not last the life of the car.

Good Luck
