I ran a search and couldn't come up with anything. I have an engine I would like to paint black. I would like to "smooth" the block so it looks better after paint. How would I do that?

Thanks,
Kevin

Use burr bits, sanding rolls, and small 2" and 3" roloc wheels on an angle die grinder, Start with 36 grit to remove the porus sand casting surface and to smooth out the edges, etc. Degrease really well with wax and grease remover followed by a good cleaning with laquer thinner or alcohol and allow it to completely dry. Three coats of epoxy primer then paint. You could also apply the epoxy and let it fully cure-one week minimum then sand it down with 220 or 320 and follow up with another application of epoxy then paint. I would avoid using a high build urethane primer on an engine- it may not hold up to the expansion and contraction the engine will see from cold start to hot run. JMO
