I would think it highly unlikely that ALL CHEVELLES would have interchangeable sheet metal

I am pretty sure 66 and 67 are different and they are the closest. Bumper and grill area are diff which makes fenders diff, hood same though I think. Good luck

Maybe I misunderstood the question

I thought he asked if ALL CHEVELLE Sheet Metal was interchangeable., if he is asking if some years may have interchangeable sheetmetal, than the answer would be different.

I venture to guess that he was reffering to ALL 1966 Chevelles (since the topic was "66 Chevelle").

All 1966 Chevelles DO have interchangable sheetmetal, but there are slight differences, mainly in trim and emblem locations.

For example, 300 and 300 Deluxe cars have no trim around the wheel openings or under the doors or under the grill (valence) and no hood "wind-split". Therefore, there are no holes in those panels, but the panels are the same otherwise. The 300 Deluxe also has unique trim one the sides of the car, which includes holes that aren't found on Malibus or SS cars...

300/300 Deluxe fenders are pretty good to find, because those models lack the lower rocker molding (that trapped moisture, etc) of the Malibu and SS cars, and therefore seem to have less rust/rot in the rust-prone area. At least those that I have seen (of course, being in California, there's often not too much rust anyway).

El Caminos are the same, with the El Camino Custom models being similar to Malibu/SS trim and the plain El Camino being more like the 300 Deluxe (or was it the 300s?)...

67 and 66 front ends should interchange, but as a whole. They will look almost "factory" except some other possible trim differences (like the 67 vs 66 Malibu side trim).

For what its worth, I have a "beater" that had 1965 front clip on a 1966 body (or vice versa, its been a long time). It looked horrible to me, but bolted up okay. It was some older couple in their 4-door back in the early 1980's, and they just wanted the car driveable...

the reason I ask is there is a kid at school that really is ignorant that has a white '66 4 door DRIVER that has a pretty good body and fairly complete interior which is black for sale. the car has no posts on the doors. I'm gonna try to talk him into letting me keep the motor/tranny which is a 283 powerglide that runs. I'm going to buy the car this week. I couldn't pass up his price of FIFTY DOLLARS WITH A CLEAN TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! graemlins/hurray.gif is that a score or what? I just have to get the cash before he changes his mind tongue.gif what's cool is that it is not a junker and it's in better condition than when I bought my '71. I'll snag it for sure. (crossing fingers)
