I've managed to remove all the trim around the top of the bed on my '70 el camino except for the wide trim piece running across the top of the tailgate and the narrow pieces running down to the tail light on each side. Any help greatly appreciated

My cup of tea has to deal with 64-67. I am sure that a 70 has the same setup. I don't know for sure but I think they do. On a 64-67 take the back side tailgate panel off and the trim has studs coming thru it and those pesky lil' speed nuts hold it on. On the corner piece's take the inner panel out in the bed and same thing as the tailgate...... Studs and speed nuts. Again, I am more familiar with the 64-67 models, but I hope that this helps.

66 is exactly right, they are held on by speed nuts. You need to remove the access panel to get to them. The ones that are above the rear light is the same way, 2 speed nuts. They might be reachable through the light hole, but if not, you can get them by reaching through the access panel in the side of the bed.
Good luck

Well now, all the straight peices are stainless steel. The corners are chrome plated. The nice think about stainless steel is, if you polish it enough you can take all the minor scratches out and buff it back to a mirror finish.
