Hello:

Were RPO D96 Pinstripes offered for model year 1966 Chevelles?

Can a person tell the build date from the Vin number? If so, how?

Thank You again.

What does the letter have to do with the month on a trim tag?? The months were numbers, not letters, 01~12; the weeks were A~D, 1st~4th weeks.

The car is a 4th week July build, very late production.

Monthly sequence numbers for each assembly plant have been published. You can find this information at Chevellestuff.com or tell us your VIN and we'll check it for you and determine if you have a late or early production 66. But the published numbers indicate 65 production ran into August at all plants and August 65 (66 model) production was included with Sept 65 (66 model) production numbers implying that there was no 66 model production in July of 65.

The sequence numbers and the published information are for completed cars. The bodies were completed prior to the final run down the assembly line. Mike, are you aware of some very early bodies built in late July that would not have been completed until late August?

I purchased the vehicle. I asked the seller this time to Email me the VIN number in lieu of telling me over the phone b/c it is loud here at work. All three times this was the VIN both read over the phone and typed within an Email. The seller indicated a 07D build date of a Baltimore car. Listed below is the VIN

138676818647

Note:

Has the center "B" Baltimore been read as an "8"

Are we missing one character?

Please interpet build date and input asap so I can begin buying dated parts.

Thank you again.

An SS convertible; Cool.

Yes, you are missing one of the last six sequence digits. I would say the 8 is supposed to be a B. The last sequence number at Baltimore in June was 180692 and July was 188331. I would say that 18647X fits into July 1966 nicely with the 07D body build date.

Seller sent pic of VIN tag as seen now in the associated attachment!

No one can clearly see the VIN as

13867 B 186417 = 13867B186417

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!
