Pretty cool, and not too common to see. :)

Anyone else see them? I can't anymore, but could about 2 hours ago while outside of town (no street-lights).

They were out last night. Nice show. The nicest I have ever seen were up in Churchill, Manitoba when I worked up north. Tourists go up there just to see them. The whole sky is lit up. I would rather look for them in Mexico. LOL

I was in Wisconsin Dells last weekend and saw a very small band. Is this possible in that area? I have never seen northern lights, but this would be the only explanation I can think of. This occurred before the moon drowned out all the stars.

Derek- being from the south I figured you wouldn't be able to see them. j/k

They are really cool once you get up past Brainerd/Duluth area. My wife never saw them until we went wy north once, and she was amazed with the sky glowing greenish like a post-nuclear evening. I've never been up in Maple flag land and seen them, I can't imagine how cool they must be up there.

I've seen them here in Maryland, suprised you folks in MN haven't.

If you are interested in that kind of stuff, subscribe to www.spaceweather.com (http://www.spaceweather.com) , they have a free email that will alert you if any solar flares occur (or meteor showers too!). About a day after a solar flare, if it's strong enough and earth directed, you may see the northern lights. Go here http://www.sec.noaa.gov/SWN/index.html to see real time status-this site can explain how to read the K index and judge the polarity of the magnetic field to best know when an aurora is visible in your area.

Neat stuff!

Winter is on strike here, we're only getting the line crosser weather where I am... Dec 14th, 48 degrees. Rick70ss drove his car yesterday. I worked outside in a t-shirt, saw a guy in shorts at the postoffice.

So that's what that was I saw. I THOUGHT the light was awfully white for northern lights, kind of two lights separated in the middle.:D

No picture or description can take the place of personal experience especially from far north.

Dexter has street lights?:DActually the light that screws up the view from my place is a yard-light at the farm on the edge of town. There are at least a dozen street lights in town, but they're all south of me. :)

Those weren't stars Derek, that was me mooning you from my plane as I flew out of Minnesota tonight. :Dwell, that explains the shade of brown I had never seen in the sky before. :D

Indoor water-parks? I figured most of the town would be shut down for the winter...

My parents have a place (15 acres) in the Dells a few miles from the main "strip." My friends and I brought up ATV's, dirtbikes, fireworks, paintball guns, and snowboards.

We mainly screw around all day with the toys and went to Cascade for some snowboarding at night.

I enjoy the winters since all the tourists are gone. Summers are spend on Castle Rock.

Haven't been to them yet. Are they fun for all ages, or just children? I haven't been to Noah's Ark in years.
