I have removed all the upper trim pieces and can see two bolts at the front floor bracket. Someone said there are 2 more bolts in the glove box area. I can't see any screws, bolts in that area unless I break the bottom of the glove box, which I am sure can't be right. Please help !

OK, guys, I have looked under the car above the driveshaft and still can not see any bolts which hold the center console in. AS I said before, I can not see any bolts/screws in the glove box area either. Someone please reply so I can get this thing out. Thank You !

I am just installing a 71-72 console in my 72 El Camino. It is for an automatic but I beliver the manual is similar or the same. My console is an original GM with locking glove box. There are two metal screws near the front of the plastic console. They screw into the transmision hump and through a plastic bracket attached to the console. There are two metal screws that pass through another plastic bracket and attach to the shifter housing just ahead of the horseshoe shifter. There are two screws in the bottom of the glove box that screw into a metal support bracket that is welded to the driveline hump under the rear of the console. You would not be able to see the screws below the car as the metal bracket is above the metal driveline hump and the screws would not go through the floor plan. There must be some plastic covers over the screw heads you cannot see in the bottom of the glove box. The screws are recessd down about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the box. The total number of metal screws as you can see from my description is 6 which hold the console in place. The top aluminum pieces must be removed to see the 4 screws ahead of the shifter.
