In the past I have used the LOF replacement glass (windshield) that is availble on the market today for my past chevelles. Just recently I purchased a Pilkington brand winshield from the local glass shop and the glass seems allot thicker than the LOF windshield that are now availble. I used the 3/8 butyl tape on the LOF windshield to make up the differences on these windshield as I was told from this site, and the moldings fit perfectly. This windshield that I bought today seems thicker, but it does measure about .030 thinner than the side glass. I measured this peice with a set a calipers and it measures .205".

Can someone measure a stock windshield or a new LOF windshield and let me know what the thickness is. I would like to set this windshield in this weekend and I want to use the proper butyl tape so the molding will fit properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

70SS, I have used a replacement windshield in my 66 and to my surprise the replacement was about 50% thinner than the "stock" glass. The stock one measures 0.277 inch (digital vernier caliper).

In placing the windshield I experienced that the outer surface of the windshield should be flush with the outer edge (or down to the center, but no less) of the heads of the pinchweld studs, in order to have the moldings fit properly.

Hope this helps.
