THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. mAN I LOVE IT. great stuff. I'm not part of the #s matching crowd. ( not that theres anything wrong with that) its just not me. I'm older then most of the guys on here. An I remember that. I agree with a lot of your comments. Not everyone wants or can afford a easter egg paint job. or a $15.000 motor. or wheel that cost more then my first car ( no it wasn't a buck board) I just want a nice running hot rod. love it!!

Good stuff! Before my time, But I grew up reading about rods like that which planted the seed early on.

I sheepishly admit I paid 10k for a plain white paint job. But race cars are white anyway (disclaimer:D )

before your time? all that footage was shot in 2005. i'm personally hating the fact i paid thousands for a crappy paint job, i could have bought the materals needed, and painted it several times, for less than a decent job costs these days, but i wasn't of sound mind at the time (how else could i explain it), i really do like looking at the high end stuff, but enjoy more, the clean daily driver. was a cool little vid......

i was surprised too, in the credits they said the footage was shot with a super 8 in 2005, i think that was kinda the point they we're trying to make, that there are still guys willing to bust knuckles, for a decent ride....

There was a 34 Drag Racing at what I think was New England Dragway in Epping,New Hampshire. If it is the same car it belonged to a friend of a old boss. That cars has been around forever.

That was great. Actually kind of touching. I don't know about you guys, but I kinda go in cycles working on my Chevelle. I'll go hard for a week or 10 days straight. Before work, after work, and until 2 am with sparks bouncing off the windows. Then it sits there for a while, I look at it expectantly when I take out the trash and recycling into the garage, just waiting for it to grab me again.

Maybe it's because I'm probably bi-polar. One day I want it perfect, then the next day I just want to take it out in primer and roar down the street with open headers, sneak back, slam the garage shut and get out of the house before the neighbor calls the cops.

Perhaps that's just it. Is it ever right or perfect ? Who knows, just as long as it's still fun and makes you proud. In the shirt and tie world I make my living in, it's nice to still have a bit of outlaw lurking beneath my white collar. ;)

Just a rant. Just a garage with an unfinished dream. Just something to keep in touch with a time past...for now.

I think I'll crack a Bud and go out and make some sparks tonite.:)

Rock on, John! I've always loved "old school" cars. Of course to me, it's never been "old school", just the way I had the money to do them. When I could afford more paint matirials, I started painting flames. What's cooler than a hotrod with flames? Right now, I have a yard full of "rat rods". When I have enough money they'll be finished hotrods.

When all the vintage iron is gone, we'll find away to make new iron. Hey wait, we've already done that! How's that 2006, 69 camaro ragtop of yours?

Hotrodding will never die, it just keeps getting better!

Cool video, consider myself a car guy, but I have to admit I've never bought a vibrator. Is there some kind of hazing ritual or something out west? :D

Great video. The part about todays trends in hotrodding was perfect. Loved the comment about the crying baby dolls. Who decided those were cool in the first place? They have nothing to do with cars. Buying a car out of a catalog, easter egg paint, fiberglass jolly rancher paint. Very well done.

The hairs on my neck stands!! This was a great vid. I can totaly relate to the guy coming out of the garage 0130 in the night and gets to work 0600. I'm in a position where I could buy a $10.000 motor, but where's the fun?? I've buildt two engies, and soon I'll start on my third, there's no way I'm buying it in onr peace.....:noway:

That was kind of stupid... hot-rodding is hot-rodding whether you spent $1000 on the car or $100,000, as long as you turned a few wrenches yourself.

He talks about how a hot-rodder builds it exactly the way he wants it, but if that goal includes shiny paint and maybe a little comfort, he rips it apart and says if that's hot-rodding, hot-rodding is dead.

I wonder if he's one of those "rat-rod" builders who builds a car to look like the biggest POS on purpose, with no regard for safety, plywood seats and all, then takes it to a swap meet and sticks an $18,000 price-tag on it?

Awesome vid. Thanks for posting. I'm doing everything to my 64 Imp SS myself, so I can relate. New hydraulic roller 357(400hp), 2004r, disc brake conversion, metal finishing every vertical panel because of a hack previous owner. I figure once it's painted, I'll have less than $8k into it. My buddy bought a '66 Satellite with a transplanted 440 for $23k and it burns his butt everytime I tell him the running total to upgrade something on my car vs. the $500 he spent on a factory tach, $125 on a jack setup, $100 on a driver's side taillight, etc.

Oh, by the way.. great site. I've been lurking and have learned alot from all you owners of my Impala's cousins.

Regarding that video, the dragstrip is most definitely New England Dragway and the car show is Worcester's Summer Nationals.

Gee wiz, Derek, lighten up. Yeah this guy is "grass roots" biased, but he was standing up for us. Standing up for the little guy, to let us know that we aren't the only ones turning wrenches. It's not just the high dollar custom shops that are building cars, but all the garage mechanics building our own dream cars. When you go to a car show you can't tell me, when you look at a line of cars, you don't see the same dash, or steering wheel or, crying baby over and over again. I know I kinda get tired of it. That's what makes it that much more special when I see a dash that a guy musta spent three weeks forming the metal for. The video simply states that as easy as the after market has made it for people to have hotrods, there are still some guys who take the initiative to build one from scratch.

I look forward to the day of not having to expain my Hotrod to the shiny neighbors passing by walking their poodles, or people scurrying to go shopping somewhere. I look forward to the day when the ground shakes a little and the beast emerges from the garage for the first time, just as I have dreamed it. I look forward to getting into the car, and stepping back in time, and leaving the present behind untill I return. That to me is Hotrodding.
