brans72 Dec 12th, 06, 11:29 PM do you like it?????? if so no you didn't pay to much. looks to me as you can drive it while you do some saving and mods. i went the other route and bought a true ss missing engine and needing a bit of sheet metal work. to me i want to say yes it's a true ss even though does not match # wise but i say if you like it that is all that matter!!! enjoy every minute of it!!!!!!!!!!
70 Gold Nugget Dec 12th, 06, 11:31 PM That's what it takes to own one...welcome to the club my friend...:noway: you didn't pay to much IMO...would you rather drive the POS in the background...I bet it cost more...
Spskunk Dec 12th, 06, 11:32 PM thanks. needed a second opinion. I cant wait!
68KMENO Dec 12th, 06, 11:45 PM its a California car .... it should be solid & pretty much rust free :D
& thats what most guys getting into this hobby should start with
I think you did well ... WELCOME
136679ss Dec 13th, 06, 12:03 AM that's not a bad car for the money IMO
TLee38 Dec 13th, 06, 12:05 AM I'd say you did rather well. I have paid more for less in my time. Good luck with it and welcome to the group.
Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 1:04 AM thanks everybody, now i just need to keep myself sane till it gets here
dreis454 Dec 13th, 06, 6:46 AM Put some wheel well mouldings and 71/72 ss wheels on it & you'll have a nice cruiser:thumbsup:
RacnJsn95 Dec 13th, 06, 8:01 AM I'd say it's worth it... Take some scotch brite, or an SOS pad to the bumpers, and put some shiny wheels on it and you'll be set for a while! I don't see any evidence of A/C though, as it states in the auction listing...
68KMENO Dec 13th, 06, 9:02 AM don't see any evidence of A/C though, as it states in the auction listing...
Jason ....
OH sure thats the all season's 4-60 system ;)
(roll down all 4 windows & go 60 ) ROFLAMO !!
RacnJsn95 Dec 13th, 06, 9:04 AM Duh... Factory air! :D
oldtimebaseballfan Dec 13th, 06, 9:25 AM The fact that the smog system is still intact and some other original stuff is still in place is a good sign that it has been maintained pretty well. California car should have a good undercarriage and body.
I think you did fine. As stated before, put some different wheels on and enjoy.
I don't think you should clone it. I would be proud to have a nice original malibu with a build sheet.
HoodRat Dec 13th, 06, 11:08 AM Looks like you made out ok.How can one tell what/where is the smog equipment?btw my build sheet is exactly(almost)like yours..
D Stroud Dec 13th, 06, 11:11 AM I think you did well.
Put a set of bumpers on it, take the two center trim bands off the front grill, Change the amber parking light lens on the front to a set of the SS clear lens, and add a set of wheels and tires and she will be quite the looker!
1969 Chevelle Dude Dec 13th, 06, 11:22 AM For the money it looks good. Get rid of those wheels they are nasty.:D
scotthorn Dec 13th, 06, 11:22 AM you did good!!
hmott Dec 13th, 06, 11:52 AM I guess I'm the only one that likes the wheels, I think they look mean. You should black out all the chrome including bumpers and it'll look great with that color. Anyway you did well.
Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 11:58 AM I don't think you should clone it. I would be proud to have a nice original malibu with a build sheet.
my mistake. I guess not clone an SS but give it the SS package it could have came with when it was bought originally. I am still gonna sport the Malibu emblems on the side panels when i get them and keep what i can original malibu parts. But to keep things working and running well ill need soem replacements.
Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 12:03 PM As far as wheels goes, the seller has 4 SS wheels but i dont know what year or any info on them yet. If they are 72 SS wheels they should be dark grey 5 spoke right? Are those the Z28 wheels if so? He wanted $350 for them which seems like a good price but i still havnt seen them.

I want to fix up the front but not sure what i can do with the lights. Is there a way to clean up the glass or is there new lights someone recommends that will look good.
I plan to replace the grill and get rid of the two center trim bands. They dont look right. I like the way the black looks, with only the top trim band on it.

Are you talking about the parking light lenses or the headlights?
If Headlights, I really like the Tri-bar halogen lights that I put in my wifes Z28.
If your talkin about the lenses, look at pics of 72 SS cars. The lenses are clear with amber bulbs. Looks much cleaner than the amber lenses.

Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 12:41 PM ya i meant the lenses. i checked them out and the clear ones look great so ill have to go get those.
Chevy fan attic Dec 13th, 06, 12:49 PM Iam not throwing stones here but why does everybody find this website after they by the car. This guy did ok but how many times do we read horror stories.
Good Luck
Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 12:57 PM im guilty as charged
Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 12:58 PM im glad i found it though. This place is great. I've got alot of help and good information in the couple days i've been here

The origonal 15x7's are dark grey but the newer z28 rims are very close & can be painted & only guys that know the difference (like me) will know.
350 is a tad high but aint bad if they come with the trim rings & centers and are in really good shape, you may do better on ebay but you can see these.
Spskunk Dec 13th, 06, 1:57 PM thanks. I'll take a look and see. Not sure yet if they are complete w/ rings and centers but they sound like they are still in good condition
396driver Dec 14th, 06, 1:02 AM I think its a really cool and nice car' just a little elbow grease and a few parts it will look even better.
I'm not a big fan of clones, but I like your idea of adding options that were available from the SS package for a Malibu at the time of purchase. I guess that was dash and rims and well, uh, I know 70s not 72s, so youll have to look up what the options were. I always liked the name malibu and would love one like yours.
Other than checking over the mechanicals real well, I would look at these items too:
Other than the rims (which just don't look right to me) and putting in clear front lenses as both prior mentioned, I would also replace the broken grill, and your driver side plastic inner fender is broken and will allow water and mud into the firewall area where your p-brake cable resides.
Where are the exterior emblems? I would definitely get those put back on.
Anyways, best of luck. My friend still has that part, but he's not pulled it yet. I didn't get any info yet, but I'll let you know.
