:noway: 1972 Malibu 350/auto/AC, no engine or tranny, missing everything under the hood, moused, minimal rust, no drive shaft, present condition since 1986. $1300 firm, is it a fair price?

I'd say yes. Stock 350's are easy enough to find. However, I'd try to wiggle less cash in his palm and see how firm he is. Christmas is coming.

I looked at it this morning...he's firm on the price.

If there is really hardly any rust, well worth it. I wish I could have found a car like that since I changed all those things anyway. My driveshaft, trans and soon motor all got changed, same with the rear and control arms. So much stuff that you dont have to pay for now! Go for it.

Thats parts car prices for something that should be brought back to life. I think if you pass, there would even be a finders fee for you with this one.

:pout: Yesterday, he showed me an extra Chevelle 12 bolt posi rear end. This morning I offered to buy the car if he threw in the 12 bolt. The waiting game begins; I have a little time because it's not advertised yet!

Had an identical car several years ago. I called my wife in , to show her the pics you posted, and she screamed "NO!!, you aren't buying the Dog Car" , and ran out of the room. She called my car " The Dog Car" , as the guy I bought it from used to carry his 2 dogs everywhere with him, and it created a certain smell.

I think I would offer $1,500 for the car and rear. If he says no, then take the car for the $1,300. and find out what he wants for the rear.

If your looking for one of these, Id grab it instead of worrying about a few hundred bucks. If I saw a chevelle nose high in the air and wanted one. Id be knocking on the guys door. So if you think its not advertised yet, alot of car nuts probably already have there eyes on the car. Just waiting to find out what the price is. The el camino I just bought, the guy had it advertised a little too high, it sat for a year and he didn't do anything with it. I called to see if it was still available because I wanted the tranny and all the coversion parts. I left a message and the guys wife called back, basically she wanted it gone. He told me he was going to pull the rat and then advertise it. Luckily I called 2 days before he yanked the motor, and I brought it home 2 days later!

Dude I wouldn't wait too long, someone else will drop by, ask about it and it will be on their trailer.

To hell with "throwing in the 12 bolt".....$1300 is a steal for what that is. Take it for what it is and go man.

Thats exactly what I would do also. Forget trying to make a score with the deal in trying to get the 12 bolt for free. Add some extra cash to the deal and take both of them home. Your still way ahead of the game.

Dec 14th, 06, 8:27 AM
I'd jump on that deal. All it takes is for the guy to mention to some one else that he's got a guy looking at it and the word will spread. Some one else probably knows about that car and will swoop in while you haggle over a few hundred $s. Just ask me, I've lost a few projects haggling over piddly crap, or second guessing myself.

I wish I could find a 12 bolt for 1-200 bucks all over. They are getting like hens teeth around here. Seems if you can find one for sale, its at least $300. lots of folks you talk to say they wouldn't pay more than $250 for one, but most of the folks that have one wont sell one for less than $300, if they are willing to sell it at all. I always hear "im keeping it for a spare". Jim

You may be able to find a non-posi 12 bolt for that price, but a posi unit typically go for around 1000 bucks quite often.

The only reason that car isn't gone already is it appears to be out in the middle of BFE and it looks cold there.

Most of the guys on this site are probably checking the mileage to that area already in case you dawdle.

:secret: The owner answered a WTB Chevelle add so I'm pretty safe for a while. The car is a couple of hours from me and the owner is the same distance in a different direction. There is very little chance somebody will come across it unless the owner advertises. He is out of state for Christmas and will get back to me soon. I have his Cell phone number if I get nervous.

Not a bad deal & its worth the asking price. Better buy it before I do ;)

I've got an LT1 with a HOT cam waiting to go in :D

The rust in the quarter doesn't look that bad. Just check the trunk extension and outer wheel housing for rust there. Weld in a patch panel, drop in a 350/350 combo and have a decent ride for the spring.

Good and bad news:

The 72 is still there but the 12 bolt is not for sale. He's going to cut the brackets off to install in a 55 Chevy pickup, what a shame. I'm going to find out if there is another rear end he will trade for, maybe it can be saved. I think I will buy tomorrow if the weather holds. I sure don't need another project but can't stop, Chevelleaholic!

See if you can find him a 9 inch for to trade him for the 12 bolt or something maybe. Never know what he might bite on.

do you have gps coordinates?...i'll be close by tommorrow!hahaha!! ...i'll be in GF to do some shopping...

Hopefully you can convince him to part with the 12 bolt, or trade for another diff... looks like you've found a nice project car there! I think we still have some nice finds around these parts with reasonable asking prices compared to the coasts...

Get it and continue looking for the car you want. At that price, you cant afford not to grab it. Hang on to it and let it go when you find another car. Cant lets these deals pass up. The next guy might want it for a circle track car or something.

Yeah too bad I'm not in the U.S. right now. I have more than enough to buy that car and build it into a mean boulevard bruiser.

I'm ready to buy another Chevelle and not twiddle my thumbs on it...

 Ya, I twiddled my thumbs but I'm picking the 72 up tomorrow @ 2 pm. The title became a problem, the seller hadn't transferred it into his name so we had to find the last owner, who wasn't very cooperative. By this time tomorrow it will be safe and sound in my driveway complete with the title and it only took 1 1/2 months.

I found my 72 about an hour from my home in a barn. A friend of mine said that a new guy at his work knew a guy who had one in his barn and you never know he may sell it. So I shot down there that weekend and asked the man if he wanted to sell and took a look. He asked me what I would give for it and I paid him his $800. Just before I left with it on the trailer he remembers he has some extra parts. In another barn was a complete 72 ss dog house comletely rust free that he threw in for free.
