: Think this is worth $200 bucks??
RacnJsn95 Dec 12th, 06, 4:44 PM A guy at work came up to me yesterday, and told me he was selling his 69 elcamino for $200 bucks... I'd never seen it, but I'd heard him talking about it, and it sounded fairly complete, so sight unseen I told him I would take it... Went to look at it today, probably gonna pick it up Friday. It does look fairly complete, although a lot of trim pieces are missing... All the glass is good. It's fairly straight, and mostly rust free, the only bad rust is on the drivers quarter right behind the wheel, everything else looks pretty good... The interior is all there, and in halfway decent shape... No engine, no transmission. It comes with a '66 283 in the bed, and a spare rear end.
I was hopping it would be in better shape, but for $200 bucks, it's a lot better than I had thought it would be. You can't buy much for $200 bucks these days. I'm going to rob the hood hinges off it for my SS hood on the Chevelle, but I haven't decided if it's worth doing something with yet. I'm sure it is to the right person, but I haven't talked myself into it yet... What do you guys think of my new purchase?
busterwivell Dec 12th, 06, 4:50 PM Looks like your next builder project to me........make it the way you want it!.. No matching numbers challenges to worry about. Go for it!
SS_Dave Dec 12th, 06, 4:51 PM The bumpers are worth 200 bucks.
Better grab it.
136679ss Dec 12th, 06, 4:59 PM For 200 dollars? Are you kidding me, why are you even asking this question? Rhetorical question to say the least.
Steve1972 Dec 12th, 06, 5:00 PM The rare rear engine option makes it worth $200 alone.

...and the engine mounts for it would be pretty easy to reach too! :D
DZAUTO Dec 12th, 06, 6:09 PM You are making a VERY BIG MISTAKE-------------------------------by being on the keyboard, instead of getting over there and loading it up!!!!!!! :D
RacnJsn95 Dec 12th, 06, 6:11 PM Hahaha! Yeah I figured I was stealing it too once I saw it. I'm going to pick it up this Friday... Don't worry, I don't think anyone else could find it.
Right next to it is a 59 Caddy... That thing is super straight! I've never seen one in person, only pictures... It's pretty rad looking.
Anyone else notice the unhappy looking girlfriend in the 3rd picture?
Keith Tedford Dec 12th, 06, 7:12 PM Jason, Could you take a close up picture of the rear side marker light? I think that the repro bezels that I got look like the one in your picture but the ones on our el Camino are different. I find that el Caminos are not your regular Chevelle type animal and I'm still learning about them.

RacnJsn95 Dec 12th, 06, 7:44 PM I think what I'm going to do is this... If I can talk myself into keeping it I will finish doing the 6 speed install in the Chevelle, get the bucket seats in, get it drivable and leave it satin black for now... I'm not bad at body work, but I don't trust myself to paint the Chevelle... SO I'll finish up the mechanics of the Chevelle, and get it in a garage... Then I'll start on the El Camino, and it will be my paint guinei pig... I'll take the old th350 from the chevelle, and put it in the Elky with some random engine (I haven't planned that far ahead yet), and just do the body work, and paint it myself... The Chevelle is going to be two tone black on top, silver on the bottom, so I'll paint the El Camino the oposite, but with the same colors... Cool huh? If the El Camino turns out ok, then I proceed with painting the Chevelle.
We'll see if I can talk myself into keeping it though.
*edit* Nice picture Scott! I don't think that's why she was mad though... She doesn't see the potential in it. :noway:
cliffs1970 Dec 12th, 06, 7:49 PM Why make the Elky the guinea pig?
Roofuss Dec 12th, 06, 7:57 PM :( I'm never lucky enough to find a deal like this :( $200 bucks, Sheeesh !:pout:

prefectca Dec 12th, 06, 8:45 PM I live in the rust belt and that El Camino would be like gold here. Look at this ad, I know it is not a Chevelle but you will see what I mean:

Chris R Dec 13th, 06, 1:30 AM That looks like a great project. Great price too. How is the interior?
:( I'm never lucky enough to find a deal like this :( $200 bucks, Sheeesh !:pout:
Dont feel bad. I dont either. Last time I found a decent deal, it was a 72 El Camino in 2003, and I hadnt even had it for a month before it was stolen. Never had a chance to get it running nor did I have any insurance yet. Title wasnt even in my name yet, thus no title. I lost a lot more then 200 dollars and had no way to recover anything. Total loss.
RacnJsn95 Dec 13th, 06, 7:52 AM Why make the Elky the guinea pig?
Because it's not important... (I'm saying this now, but I know as soon as I do a bunch of body work to it, and get it driving, I won't be able to let myself paint it either... Then I'll have to pay someone to do BOTH of them :( )... Yet...
Is that better Jason? I edited the pic.
Yeah, that's better... I'm pretty sure it's true. lol
EASY JD. I think thats Jasons GF.
Man I wish I wasn't at work when he wrote stuff, I wonder what it said...
Anyway, the interior is ok I suppose... No headliner, needs door panels replaced... Seat is in pretty good shape, as well as the dashpad, and dash. I paid for it just before I went to work today, and if all goes as planned I'll be picking it up Friday!
