Got a quote on a motor today at my local machine shope i need a simple yes good prices or ne and if no please specify as much as possible as to where and how much i can get them for.

Balancer $250
Sfi flex plate $99.95
I beam rods $199.95
Pro thunder intake $250
Molley pushrods $85
Roller rockers $199.95
461 Heads $150 a piece
Short block core $250
Stroker crank $299.95
GM-383-LB $2695.95

This is with all the machne work done and included into the price of some of the pieces just needs assembly. I could use some verification to put my mind at ease.

if you can get the long block machined and ready to assemble with all the parts the price looks pretty good but the prieces for the parts are a little high.

The balancer you can get from summit for probably half the price. don`t know what a pro thunder intake is but a performer rpm is half the price and would work better if your planning on running the 461 heads. which leads me to vortec heads that I see all the time for $200-$300 and would run alot better than the 461`s. I can find a 4bolt main 350 block around here fro $50-$150. If the $250 includes checking it out than that is a little better. you can also get a stroker crank from ebay for $150. don`t know how good it is but I know I`ve seen Eagle cast steel cranks for $175 on ebay. You could resize your stock gm rods with new ARP bolts for less that $200. You did`nt mention a cam, what will the motor be used for?

well your leaving out alot of info about the motor. What compression will it be? what cam? what has been done to the heads? 461`s were great back in the mid 60`s when everyone was running 327`s but without alot of porting they will be on the small side for a 383 to run decent times. I saw your other post about low 11`s high 10`s. not going to happen with these heads.

Brand names on parts would help. Most look a bit high, I agree with sschevellefan, Vortecs will run circles around the old stuff. Watch ebay for Eagle and Scat stroker cast cranks and maybe some Eagle SIR rods - new rods for not much more than resizing the old stuff. No reason to run a high dollar dampener on a budget build, Pioneer should be fine and they're $75 or less. If you're going to be hammering on it hard and spraying it, you'll want to step up the program on a lot of parts including forged crank and pistons and some better flowing heads, might look at some Brodix IK's.

I also think the vortecs are the way to go, especially since you are buying an intake anyway. The only other thing would be new valve covers for the different bolt pattern, but I'm thinking you were going to buy them anyway. They have the bolt holes for brackets, etc. You can even get them in different versions of porting and valve sizes beyond the stock size. I have a set of production ones that were cleaned up, and larger valves put in. They easily handle the cam I have.
