I'm going to look at a used original cowl induction hood this weekend for my 70. Seller is asking $375, is this a good price? The hood is primered and is said to be in excellent condition. Not looking to have a full-functioning flapper set-up, just don't like my flat hood.

I was going to order an SS hood, but will cost me about $500 to ship it.

Thanks

Looks like a good deal.
Measure your hood first as some of the repro CI hoods are a little wider.and cause fitment issues. If this is an original then that should not be a problem. You may have to change your springs as well as the CI hood is a litte heavier than a flat one.

Post an update when you can.

Might be a little hard to see waves/warpage across the top with it in primer.

(got one like that leaning up against the wall of he shop)

Dean,
Good point. He actually has 4 hoods, 3 CI, 1 SS. He says he won't sell the SS one, we'll see. Maybe he'll let me choose the CI hood I want from the 3. =)

I thought the CI hoods were more desireable, I wonder why he wouldn't sell the SS hood? Jim

Well, I checked the hood and passed on it since it requires more work than I can handle. It came off a car where the engine caught on fire and the underneath is all black and the top is all bubbled up. Not sure if it got warped or not.

As far as the other hoods, the SS is on his car, one CI went to his cousin who has a 70 wagon and the other CI – which is a NOS GM in the box – he's keeping for now.

Oh well, at least I know another guy here who owns a 70 and was really cool and will be a good source of parts/info should I need it.
