hi guys & girls. I'm gonna be putting my 68 SS up for sale soon. Was wondering if 17-17.5 is realistic for a 138 vin SS. I had it listed on here back in the summer for 19.5 & not many replys.its rust & rot free 4 spd has discs & roller tach. real clean & straight. probably a 8 outta 10. has a ce block so its not #'s matching. Thanks :beers:

Pictures go along way in determining value over the internet. What color, options, how original is it, when and how was it painted, how much repair to sheet metal and bondo, condition of mechanicals, condition of undercarriage and engine bay.

Unfortuneatly, 68 is a year that doesnt quite command a price like the 69 models.

What's it worth is not much more than a guessing game because you just never know how much someone might be willing to pay.

One Chevelle was said to be sold for $8,000.00 and you can still find cars like it for $3,500.00.

Don't know if it helps you but,,,,

I paid 12,500 for mine 2 years ago. Its a solid real 138 car with turbo 400, factory air, disc brakes, tilt wheel. Paint is great from 30 feet. I redid the rear end and added some things to bring my investment up to around 18,000. I turn down offers regularly at local cruises....

List it everywhere and be patient.

Good luck

although the car isn't matching #'s, its all orig body panels, looks & runs great. mechanicals are good too. was orig seafrost green now matador red. not sure when it was painted but excellent (now show quality) paint. floors & truck pan have no rust. needs interior redone & few small things but that about all.
Thanks :D

Sure is one good looking 68SS. Wish I was in a $$ position to buy a second one right now, but the X-mas and the tax man will leave me with only a little lint left in my pockets for a while. It looks good, should generate some interest from the 68 lovers out there.

says who???

I second that.....

Is it just because it's dumb to clone a car that you can tell by the VIN# what it is????

This is just my opinion from the few pics I've seen, please don't take it the wrong way. I think if under the hood were nicely detailed and the interior freshened up, you would be looking at 20k. As it sits now, I would think it would bring about 15k. This is all assuming the body is straight and solid, the paint is nice, and the undercarraige is solid. First impressions are everything when selling a car.

Edit... After looking at your ad again, I think if you just spend a couple days detailing under the hood, 17k seems feasible.

The price on muscle cars in the last five years has risen 250 percent. Yeah, I know that seems like a lot. But it's true. I had 5 of my 1968 Chevelles appraised in 2001. I just had them re-appraised in October, 2006. Of course every year I have added a ton of money into them. But the fair market appraisal value for insurance purposes has skyrocketed. Not sure why, all I know is that my investment into my hobby isn't losing me any money. But naturally with the increased fair market values, I'm paying more in premiums. Don't sell your 68 short. I think you'll find it's worth more than you know.

Kind of a blanket statement. Of course, I am biased toward 68's!
I wish I could have at least one from every year.

68 SS boy are you in a hurry to sell the car? If not then hold out for your price. Check my pic, I turned down $25,000 for my car, which is not for sell. During a show with a buyer you wouldn't buy a much nicer (IMHO) 70 Chevelle that was for sell, at the seller price of $22,500. The 70 was a 396/350 with a th400, A/C, power brakes and steering, and vinyl top. my 68 396/375+ 4 speed, power brakes. Go figure!
GOOD LUCK
