Hello gentlemen-
I need some help. Short story.......a car backed into the driver side door, bent near rear of door. A friend repaired outside door shell without removing inside door panel. Outside of door repaired and repainted but.....door will not lock and window will not roll down.

I removed door panel inside.......door safety beam is bent in about an inch. Need to push beam toward outer door shell one inch........but that thing is steel..!!!!!!!! I can't move it.....no way to push on it either.

Any ideas........???

Thank you..........kindly.

Second photo shows my fingers between outer door shell and safety beam........I should not be able to do that.

You should have taken it to a body shop and had it fixed right the first time..

Hope it turns out to be not much hassle at all for you..

Try to find someone with a port-a-power, should be able to tweak it out enough with the spreader attachment and a piece of C-channel slid inside the inner framework. You'll have to remove the lock rods first, though. Be careful, since you could push too far, and damage the new paint job.

Possible to park next to a wall and open other rear door and push on it with a bottle jack and a 4x4?

just take a hammer and some sort ofa blunt object and dent the channel until the linkage clears, or just bend the linkage a bit to go around the beam and re-adjust everything as necessary.

Hey........thanks guys. I'm still working on it. The port-a-power sounds good, if I can find one. I can't bend the rods to make them work, they have to be a certain length. The door lock, when turned with a key, hits the beam anyway.

It is very tight in there too........when the beam is in the correct position......the window barely misses the beam. Now it hits the top of the beam when the window is rolled down. The window will only retract a few inches inside the door.

Thank you all.
