Hi All
Welp, It looks like I'll be replacing the passenger side rocker on my car! I will be needing some help with this, I'm sure. How do I remove the rusty one? It looks like it is sandwiched in between the quarter and the cowl area, and spot welded to the inner rocker and floor. Is this correct? The rocker appears fairly solid about halfway back to the door. would it be better to cut a new rocker in half and butt weld it in? I just dont know how difficult it is to replace these. If someone could take a look at the picture of the damage (its bad), and provide some guidance, I would be very grateful. Thanks

Steve

no experienced body repair guy has a few minutes to look at some pics and offer some advice?

Phew, that nasty :D Where are you going to buy the new rockers from? I hear you get the new panels, then measure exactly what that new piece is. Then measure that on the old rusty junk and cut it out? Just make sure you cut far back enough and have the right amount of clean good metal to weld too, or it won't weld to it. Ive had that problem with little parts in the past. Shouldnt be too tough to do if you have all the stuff :D

The weird thing is, the back part is solid as a rock! The car must have been sitting so all the moisture ran to the front. The main question I have is should i flange the new one and slip it inside the old one, or butt weld it. I realize there is a strength issue here. Also it looks like the front is underneath the cowl area, are there just a few spot welds holding it there?

I would replace the whole thing, but there is no way to access some of the welds with the quarter panel on. Believe me I'm not crazy about splicing, It seems like the only solution. Yes I did a search and found the thread you posted, e-mailed Normie and have a plan of attack. Thanks!
