I have some very small stress cracks in my hood. I stripped all the paint off and they didn't go thru to the bottom. The old paint clearly showed the cracks and I don't want to have an issue after it gets re-painted. Years ago I would have ground the section down and layed resin & matting over it, but I was thinking that something this minor and with all the new products out today, that I could just apply something over it after I grind it down. Any suggestions?

Is this a complete glass hood or is it a glass scoop bonded to a metal hood?

This is complete glass hood from the 70's. It's not the new composit plastic like fiberglass found in newer Vette's and the like. Just old hand layed glass.

I'd suggest buffing out the cracks with a sander for a peek, it might only be the paint thats cracked. If it goes down into the glass then grind them out and reglass. Be careful if you have to do a fiberglass repair as the new repair can warp the panel as its curing. Small repairs don't present a problem, but large surface areas can warp the hell out of a hood. Good luck

Opps, I see you already stripped the paint, Well in that case buff down the cracks and reglass and you should be good to go.

I have had good luck with Polyester primer. It is basicly "gel coat", being a polyester resin with pigment in it. I have seen it used on fiberglass hoods on lumber trucks and hold up to MINOR cracks.
By the way these aren't really "stress" cracks they are a shrinkage crack. So filling them with the polyester should take care of the problem.
