I was looking at another post (about the 2000 monte seats in a 71) And i saw the pics of a guys chevelle w/the late modle camaro cosole in it and it looks nice, kinda like what i wanted to build for my car (and lot less work, lol) but i was currious how these fit in the chevelles (as far as mounting and looking)?? Any suggestions!! Thanks guys!!!! Any pics would be great too.

P.S. i found a 93-96 6-speed camaro cosole on ebay and looks like what i need!! Any thoughts?? Thanks again!!!

Well, It is gonna leave a gap between the dash and the console. But if you can build something that will fill that area and still flow with the dash and console then it would probably look really good. I have one in my 68 but that is a much smaller car and making a filler panel was easy. I've looked at the 66 and figured it would be more work than its worth but maybe not. Mostly it is for me, because I dont want to ditch my bench seat!

Good luck!

Wouldnt my 71 be pretty much like your 68?? I have never really looked that hard at a 68s interior but i was thinking that the dash is probably pretty much the same height off the trans tunnel as my 71. I dont know!! Thanks for the help, whatd you make your filler pannel outta??

71? I thought you were working on an older Chevelle! I dont know how it would fit in your 71. I made mine from aluminum and the textured it to match my center panel then painted black. It looks OK I guess. Definitely not as custom as some guys can do but it works. Here is a pic if you wanna see it:

It isnt the greatest pic but you can see what I did. I really like the console though. It seems to fit perfectly with the factory interior. Anyway, if you do install one, post some pics...I'd like to see it!

Here's my car (70) with a 2000 Blazer console mocked in place. In the 1st picture I have just set it in place to check the fit with my ratchet shifter. I will use the factory Blazer auto shifter (2nd pic) It fits the floor very nice as-is although I am going to make some mounting tabs for the factory holes for the console.
I did some checking into the camaro console and it seemed to be too long & too wide at the front. The blazer console is narrow all the way to the front, Has 2 cup holders, Shifter and no ugly emergency brake handle.
My car is undergoing 1/4 replacement so I have not got to installing it yet, Will post more pics when complete. The console is Graphite and actually matches the factory black very nice although the flash makes it look lighter.

I never finsihed it off by tieing it into the dash.

AlWhite00, that looks really good! Is it from a full size blazer or ? I like the fact that it doesnt have the e-brake and it looks to fit the contour of the floor really well. The Camaro console required some filler panels welded to the floor to eliminate gaping holes. I also made the e-brake funtional which is cool but more work to make it work. It looks good in the end but definitely not a plug and play type of install.

I'd like to see some more pics of yours when you get it finished.

Mine also had the gap between the tunnel and the console. I just put padding below the carpet to make the two mesh well. Your gap might have been larger and the console less flexible/forgiving.

"plug and play"... now THAT's funny. :D

73Z, what did you to do "jump" the gap between the console and the bottom of the dash?? Also, what all did you have to do to make the camaro console fit the floor (as far as addint pieces of metal and so forth??

I think it looks good, i dont ahve stock buckets, i have some out of like a 94 laser, so they arent really wide, i have quite a bit of room between them. Anything else i need to do/worry about?? Thanks

Well, I made some filler panels that I welded to the floor to fill the gap along the side. The filler panel between dash and console was a custom piece I made from my old center dash panel. I used aluminum to bend a mounting flange for the gauges and it became part of the center dash panel. That way I can remove all of these items for whatever reason if I need to.

I got the idea for these fillers from Year Ones website for a 69 Camaro they built.

Here is a pic of the filler panels:

73Z, any chance you could get me some more pics of that console in from some diff. angles?? I was looking at the 94-95 camaro consoles and they have another piece on top of them for like cd cases stacked up, and i think that might get me pretty close to the bottom of my dash!! That might fit a little diff. on the floor too!!!

I like BB-Mikes, idea of some padding under the carpet where the gaps are!! I might try that, if not, you think you could get me some dimetnions on where to put thoes filler pannels and any measurements you got 73z?? If not no big deal.

Alwhite00 hows that balzer console fit the tranny tunnel?? Any chance of making a filler pannel between the dash and console?? If so let us know!!

Im glad i found all this stuff out i think this will be a lot easier than making my own fiberglass console (and a lot less costly)!! Thanks guys!!!

Fits the floor really nice in the front & back. I couldn't see where the seats are though. The mounting brackets for the console fit tight to the floor in the front & back. The way this thing mounts is the shifter is bolted in first then the console goes over the top & then bolts down. I don't see any "big" obsticles when installing it.

Good luck.

Remy,
Sorry not to get back to you. I used a Auto console and gutted it out. I had to trim the opening as well so the shifter could go from park to first.
