Hey,
I am wondering what your opinions are for the best red paint color on any car is? My friend is going to paint his 64 impala red and he was wondering what are some nice shades.
Thanks

Kevin

I like Torch Red. I know that GM used it on 91 luminas, I think it was also used on Corvettes.

There are several reds that seem to gather attention at car shows:

GM Victory Red, code 74, this has been a staple color in the truck/burb/Tahoe lines for many years now - this is a genuine classic red color with a subtle orange undercurrent, a very warm red.

Torch Red, code 70, as stated above this is a Corvette color that goes back to '93. It is more intense/less warm than Victory Red - very eye catching.

Porsche Guards Red, for many this is the definitive red, very intense

Those three are some of the top reds, you can't go wrong with Victory Red on a hot rod - it really works well with flames.

Now the custom red that I will never forget is on the '50 Chevy show car that won a slew of awards in the show circuit within the last year or so. Pictures simply cannot convey this red, it HAS to be seen in person. The best way I can describe it is to say that it is an electric solid red - everything that gets near it takes on a bright red glow, wish I knew how they did that!

Yeah, I know there are a TON of reds out there, pick what you like and do a lot of prep work.

Just went to the USMA Nationals last weekend here in Mt. Clemens, MI. A guy had his '66 SS427, Blown, Pro Street treatment, BAAAAAD to the Bone....Painted '97 Viper (Dodge) Red. Super flat panels, gloss till the cows come home and caught my eye, and ear, from about 75 yards away. Very "bright" orangish tint, looked fantastic. My '66 was original Regal red, very subtle red and I think "viper" paint will fit the bill nicely when the paint man comes to do the job....

Hi guys,

I am about to paint my 66SS and I will being using Ferrari Corso Rosso (the std Ferrari red). I think it makes a great red.

The question is PPG or Glasurit. We will be trying to do it in single stage.

Input as always welcomed.

There's a really good one from a 1991 Jeep Wrangler called Radiant Fire if I'm not mistaken.

I painted a 65 malibu SS in the factory Regal red a few months back. If I were to do it again, I would opt for a brighter red. The regal red is too dark and is missing something.
I'd do a 99-2000 chevy truck red in a single stage urethane.

Glassurit is a top of the line product, can't go wrong there. I used RM UNO ss on my elky which came out great and was easy for a novice like me to use. I believe Glasurit and RM brands are all BASF products.

The 01 or 02 Mustangs have a nice red. There's one in my parking lot at the office and it is very bright.

As long as it is bright enough to hurt your eyes, it will be OK. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

I really like "Mazda Red". I think that's the color of SS540's car. It's sweet.

Mine is Chevrolet's "Bright Red". It looks great in BC/CC. Mine's single stage acrylic and it looks awesome (extremely bright) for the first several months after painting. Then it tones down a bit.
