64CDNSS Dec 9th, 06, 11:17 PM I made my own gauge panel for my 64.
I like the old school under dash look.
I can e-mail a pic of it if you want.
70ElkySS Dec 10th, 06, 12:53 AM I put mine underdash. I couldn't find a mount that I liked, so I made my own. It's just PVC pipe, a piece of aluminum stock, and a few pieces of hardware.

bluechevelless Dec 10th, 06, 1:07 AM Heres a picture of mine
I just bought the smallest triple guages and holder that I could find then I painted the bracket to match the dash. Looks pretty good the letters on the gauges are green like the 70s and im gonna try to pull them apart and painte the pointers orange to match the stock gauges.
Also the guage holders holes were in the exact location as the holes for the ash tray to I didnt have to drill any holes on the dash. The ash tray doesnt hit them and they have a slight tilt to the driver.

Poompapa's 72 Dec 10th, 06, 1:32 AM Maybe try an A-pillar gauge pod to hold a couple of extra gauges. http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?cat=0
Also, replace your clock with a tach

Or, you could just go the route of converting the entire dash to an SS cluster style. It's pricey. Of course, you'd still have a few extra gauges, and want that pillar pod anyway.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
I put mine in chrome cups under the dash, mounted the cups to a bracket, the the bracket to the underside of the dash using OE holes.

2cool Dec 10th, 06, 1:26 PM I have always hated those gauges hanging down under the dash and have not seen a real good place for them short of cutting up the dash.
gonracn Dec 10th, 06, 8:02 PM Here is my idea I came up with.

2cool Dec 10th, 06, 8:06 PM Thats a clean place for em.
bluechevelless Dec 10th, 06, 9:39 PM what about the same setup as above, very nice indeed, but using the 69 camaro gauges?
2cool Dec 10th, 06, 9:45 PM What kind of shifter is that?
Alwhite00 Dec 11th, 06, 6:41 AM Here's my 70 with a sweep dash. It was hacked for a radio and had gauges hanging under the dash, I hated the look of it so I came up with this. Used a piece of textured ABS and cut it to fit. The 2 RH gauges are angled slightly towards the driver. I also put a 2 5/8" tach where the clock block off was. The gauges are 1 1/2" I believe. Looks more "factory" than before. Sorry for the bad pic.

Malibu70 Dec 12th, 06, 2:21 AM The old-school way mounted the gauges below the dash. My 1970 had five gauges added to it:
The tachometer mounted to the steering column with a tie-wrap, covering the 0-10 speedo range and the all-important brake light.
The four gauges below the dash are from left: volts, vacuum, oil pressure, and water temperature.

Two problems arise from gauges down low - you can't easily see them, and you tend to bump into them with your knee.
Lately a lot of folks have been replacing their in-dash gauges with aftermarket, many times adding gauges in the process. Some people cringe at cutting holes in their factory original dash, so other locations might work for you. You could try below the dash, on the steering column, on top the dash, or in a custom pod on the windshield pillar. I've even seen gauges up next to the rear-view mirror.
Last year I replaced the in-dash sweep gauges and all other gauges with the Nordskog digital DP9255 package.
