: 67 Body Mounts
jgmotto Dec 20th, 03, 5:39 PM The rear body mount locations on my 67 Coupe (the ones under the trunk floor) are rusted out. Both the frame brackets and the trunk sheet metal braces are both eaten up pretty bad so the mounts are virtually unattached! Are replacement parts available for these pieces? Are typical body shops qualified to do this kind of repair? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!
EddieF Dec 22nd, 03, 8:48 AM I'll be watching this thread with interest because it's a problem area on my car as well. NPD has something called 'brace, trunk floor to body mount' which sounds relevant, it's a right hand and left hand item. but there are no photos so I can't tell exactly what's going on there. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm sure someone here knows how to approach this repair.

Fast Eddies 67 Dec 22nd, 03, 10:07 AM I've read here that some that had the same problem welded lg.washers to the frame. You can probley do the same for the body :D
B.A. 66 SS Dec 22nd, 03, 4:25 PM I used washers on my 66 SS frame and they work great but I'm not sure that the washers would work very well on the trunk floor brace location. Below are the pieces that I think you are looking for, you can see pictures of them on the Ausley's Chevelle Parts website.

EddieF Dec 22nd, 03, 8:33 PM Brian, is there any possible way you could explain the orientation of those parts? I see the pictures but honestly can't imagine where or exactly how they go. Thanks. Ed.
CDN SS Dec 23rd, 03, 2:00 PM Guys check with your local resto supplier ..... there is a trunk repair panel available for right and left side which includes are new body mount/ brace and trunk floor portion all as a unit that you can repair your floor with ....do not buy just the braces buy the whole panel .......worked great on my 66 matched up to stock floor with all the same shapes , part on the frame you will have to fab up depending how bad it is
Umass Dec 24th, 03, 1:02 AM best way to fab those back frame brackets is to get some 4X4 1/8 wall steel tubing cut off a 4 or 5 inch section then cut it at a 45 degree angle. now youll have a perfect bracket with a flat top and tapered sides. just drill a large hole in the top and your set to go
B.A. 66 SS Dec 25th, 03, 7:40 PM EddieF,
I sure can try to explain it. Check out my website in my signature. From the main page look at the left site of the page and click on "Body Photos", at the very bottom of that page there are three pictures. The left two show the new trunk floor and braces. On the picture that is the far left the areas that are not black are ground down around the braces. In that photo the two braces that are "vertical" are the trunk braces that mount to the frame.
Hope that helps,
jtbutler Apr 4th, 06, 11:11 AM OPG has these parts now. They are a new item and are currently on back order (3~4 weeks). I have a set ordered but am contemplating canceling because of the delay on my project. The part number at OPG is C220052.
JJ67SS Apr 4th, 06, 11:42 AM I got these from GoodMark when replacing the trunk in my 66 - the trunk was the 3 pcs trunk replacement set.
The orientation is, curved part to the back of the lower wheel well and the straight part goes across the trunk toward the middle. I can also post pictures... let me know.

If you want to repair the frame brackets, go to www.einstyn.com (http://www.einstyn.com) and look at Pete Lohr's frame work on his hardtop wagon. He tells you the sources for his parts (McMasters and Car). I got mine there for half the cost from the resto suppliers. UMASS is also correct. You can replace the entire bracket. BUT, it must be mounted precisely to align with the trunk pans; or you must install the trunk pans to align with the mounts. Frame dimensions and specs sheet would be helpful if replacing the entire brackets.
