I have a 68 400 mated to a 67 396/375 hp.It has a console and 67 shifter. The trans has a shift cable hook up.Not the shift rod that is on 67 Trans,

Can I hook up a 67 Chevelle auto shifter and rod with any problem.

The shifter cable setup should work with the 400. The 67 chevelles with the turbo 400 transmissions and consoles were cable-operated that year (it clearly shows this in my 67 restoration manual).

Only the powerglide transmission console shifter had the rod linkage and will not work with a 400 trans (unless you purchase a conversion kit that uses a cable to replace the rod linkage on a 67 shifter, which sounds like the previous owner has already done). Hope this makes sense.

Good Luck, Charles

quik question, does the shifter cable mount to the shifter base. I can,t get my console out unless I unhook the shifter from the trans. There is a l bracket screwed to the shifter base to run the cable. Is this correct or do I need to go to the book. any info appreciated or a pic of your shifter. Thanks
