Hey guys. I'm ready to do the job except for the fact that I don't have a buffer. I saw the body shop store has buffing backers/velcro buffing pads that screw in just like my sanding pad does on my DA, but the guy at the store said a DA won't buff correctly because of its dual motions. Is this true, and if so, is there an interface that causes it to spin in circles only?

I would not. You have got all this time and money invested it would be a shame to mess it up now. You may can rent one at a good price or have a friend loan you one. Just keep the speed down to avoid any burns.

Is it possible to use one of those big 11" buffer/polishers to compound? I know it would be big and bulky... but I'm desperate right now
I bought a Black & Decker 2 speed (non-orbital) sander/ buffer for about $50 at a hardware store. I found 7" wool and foam pads to fit it at a Carquest Auto Parts store. It does buffing jobs fine for me. I keep it on low speed. One tip, I put masking tape on the (body) edges to keep the pad off them.

Also, make sure the pad is squarely on the surface when you start the motor. Otherwise the motor will run up speed before you lay it on.
