I am restoring a 72 Chevelle SS,
and am down to final touches.. need
to drill both (replaced) fenders and insert SS
emblems. where in the world would I find
the proper measurements to place them or is there a "pattern" or "template" available
somewhere. This is one of those things
that you only really get one shot at and I
don't wanna miss.
Thanks

Refer to your trusty GM assembly manual. If you don't have one, they are avail. thru ebay cheaply. There are pages with reference lines that show you exactly where to drill the holes for emblem placement. Good Luck!

Do you still have the origianl fenders? You could use them as a template I did that for my 69. I just used a sheet of note book paper and then measured where the corner holes were located on the old fenders. I got mine perfect and they are straight.
A friend came over to use my fenders as a template so he could make a SS Clone and I tried to put his Reproduction SS 396 emblems on and the 396 would not fit right.
We did find something different on the G.M. NOS emblems compared to the Reproductions the 396 center locating pin is off location about 1/8 of an inch compared to my originals. He ground that center pin off and it worked perfect. He just did not drill the center hole for the 396 emblem.
Hope this helps you out a little especially if you still have the original fenders around. If you don't maybe someone has one laying around near by you could use.

I'm currently in the process of making some templates for the '70-'72 Chevelle SS 396 fender emblems. I purchased a NOS LH fender and it did not come with the holes predrilled(for obvious reasons). I am using my old fender and making a stencil(for both LH and RH), however, I have not stayed with the project and will not have it available real soon. I will make available when I can, however, use the measurements from the assembly manual as mentioned by riskyvt. I know I'm no real help to you right now, but hopefully I can help those that need it in the future.
