Just saw "Pimp My Ride" earlier on MTV2 and they showed them redoing a 65 El Camino that looked pretty cool when it was done. Crate Summit 350/330 hp w/blower sticking out of hood, 5 TV monitors in back w/ propane grill for tailgaters. It was a beater before the redo -- George Foreman grill on the bed for tailgating, missing grille and headlight bezels and all up front, one bucket seat, missing tail pipe on dr. side. Don't know if it was a repeat or not, first time I've seen it. 64elkynss

'Bullit' with Steve McQueen from '68 has a lot of neat cars. At the very start in the parking garage where Johnny Ross tries to run from the mob, there's a brand new white base level El Camino. Later there's a '68 Chevelle SS396 involved in the chase scene trying to avoid a collision while leaving the city limits.
I also recall a 2 second appearance of a '65 Chevelle 2-door wagon that looks as though it is actually a Con-Edisson service vehicle. There's also a '65 El Camino.

You really have to watch carefully to catch all the great old cars in that movie. Actually many of the old cars were still new at that time. A Porche 356, Dodge Coronet, Firebird 400, big block Ford Police Interceptor, numerous Falcons, Corvettes, Camaros, Impalas, Chevy pickups & Dodge A-100 vans. It's very entertaining just to catch the old street scenes and mod clothing in San Francisco the year after The Summer of Love.

Tales from the crypt King of the road If you havent seen it, you have missed out on a show with a bad 68 or was it a 69 anyway, it's only a 1/2 hour but it's one of the best car movies I've ever seen. Also has a cool drag race scene at the end. And what about the movie: The Raith with charlie sheen? wasn't there a chevelle in that one? If not, it still has lots of car races, it's still one of my favorites.

As a kid I remember watching a movie about a plane that crashed, and some how the delivery of the mail was hendered. At the end of the movie there is about a 15 second shot of a 66 wagon used by a postman. the camara shot goes inside the passenger side window and the postman driver quotes the US Mail slogan, and they pan out as the 66 wagon drives away. Only saw this movie once but it stuck.

P.S.
It is super big turn off to see vintage iron being destoyed in recent movies.
I don't think I'm going to get used to it. I was caught off guard watching the first part of 'Wrong Turn". I felt like the destuction of the stang ( or any other muscle car, esp a chevelle ) was unnecessary.

The end of Charlie's Angels where they blow up a Chevelle SS. There is a short flick somewhere on the web I saw how they did it and it'll make you cry. Years ago, one of those idiot dare devil stunt guys jumped a true 68 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed car into a wall of stacked cars and totaled it. I forget the name of the guy, but the car was painted yellow. All I remember is screaming at my TV for 20 minutes in anger. In an interveiw afterward, he said he needed the big block car to get the speed he needed for the jump. "SO PUT A 454 OUT OF TRUCK INTO AN 80 MALIBU 4 DOOR, JACK@$$!!!!!!"

The movie Paparazzi had a 66 convertible in it. A recent Cingular Wireless commercial had a 64SS convertible in it, airing about a year ago at this time.

lol...spanky spangler!, (<<idiot stunt guy, great moniker though) he always uses chevelles...the best car movie is "hollywood knights" tons of cars, a young, hot (and in short, shorts which alone cancels out all of tony danza's appearance) michelle phiefer and a not so completly annoying fran dresher, pretty funny too

american grafitti is another must see classic and just the sound of that big block chev pulling hard off in the distance is worth the price of admission bonus: you get to hear harrison ford drawl in reply to toads "noboby beats john milner!"..... "i aint nobody, dork"
american grafitti II is a total waste of celluloid and 90 minutes of your already too short life that you're sure to regret you'll never get back, i still cant believe they were both made by george lucas...apparently his contract required another production while he was aleady off in deep space dreaming up star wars

one tv show ive never seen mentioned is "bewitched", chevy must have been a big sponser because i remember one episode where samantha has to go to some ladies knitting meeting or something and all the hens pull into a parking lot at the same time and i couldnt believe it...they were all driving classic chevs, ss chevelles, camaro's, nova's and a vette i believe, it looked liked reggie jacksons ex's, girlfriends and wives all rolled up to some bank at the same time....and, anyone catch the recent episode of "malcolm in the middle" when his parents steal a blue and white chevelle and try to run off to mexico?...raoul and conchita, too funny

I remember a movie called "Drive In" made in 1976, set in Texas where the lead character has a 70-72 body style convertible. Im pretty sure its a 71. The movie is pretty mediocre at best but there is quite a bit of footage of the car, probably because its the best thing in the movie.

Can't believe it hasn't already been mentioned (or maybe I missed it), but how about Chuck Norris (& David Carradine) in "Lone Wolf McQuade". McQuade's daughter is dating a young serviceman who drives a gold '70 Chevelle. You first see the car when McQuade, his ex-wife and his daughter are talking outside the house, and the young lad pulls up to the house to take the daughter on a date.

Later the daughter and the serviceman witness some illegal activity while making out up on a hill. They start to leave to report the activities, but the bad guys show up and kill the serviceman and push the Chevelle over the edge of the hill (with the daughter in it). Poor Chevelle rolls side over side about 6 or 7 times. Oh, and I think the daughter got hurt too. :D

It probably was Spanky Spangler. Seems like most of the cars he used were Chevelles or Novas.

Yes he has been known to use Yellow on his cars (he once sent a yellow Nova into a lake) but he's also used red.

http://www.spankyspangler.com/pics/spanky_RandyHill_car_jump_crash01.JPG

The above pic is the year him and an accompice used two 1971 Chevelles in a jump head-on collision. They also did this same stunt the previous year, using two 1970 Chevelles after the stunt went well. Both cars went up a ramp and then hit each other head on before landing on a pile of cars beneath them.

I just finished watching Dukes of Hazzard (the series) and remembered that Cooter had a 68 Chevelle with a tunnel rammed big block in it. Bo and Luke raced each other and it was a dead tie. After watching Brian Carson do that stunt, I realized that I must be sick. I would rather watch a real murder take place than to watch the destruction of another Chevelle. Actually, I would rather watch Spanky's and Brian's murder, then to see them wreck another Chevelle. Is it just me? Am I alone on this? To me it feels like I'm seeing an abusive father beat his son to death. I can't have kids, so my wife and I think of our cars as kids. Maybe that's why, .......I don't know. ........whatever....

Junkyard Dawg
Dec 12th, 06, 1:45 AM
Earthquake I feel the same way you do, then again you also have to keep in mind when the Chevelle on the Dukes Of Hazzard was wrecked was at a time (early 1980's) when Chevelles were not only a dime a dozen but were considered "just another car" and at the time would be the same thing as if you saw a 95 Camaro on TV today getting wrecked....

I'm sure the same can be said for Spanky....I think those Chevelle stunts were early 80's stuff. He did wreck some (now) cool cars but at the time were probably not considered really worth anything.

Now when I see a newer movie that shows a classic getting destroyed, that irks me as we all know how rare and valueable they are nowadays.

We test ourselves identifying classic cars with as little a piece or clue of the car. Most cant believe how well I can do it with what little I see of the cars.

There is a scene in Terminator 2 where the kid "John" realizes he has total control of the Terminator. He then orders the Terminator to rough up a couple of men who had originally responded to his cries for help.

The whole thing transpires in front of, on top of, and against a primered 66 or 67 Chevelle. I'm pretty sure it is a 67.

Okay, I remember an older obscure movie that featured a '64 Chevelle that had been a race car with quick change gears and all. I think it starred a young Beau Bridges? He rebuilds and races the car. Maybe moonshiner?

Okay, did a search online and found it.
Movie was called Fury on Wheels. Really obscure and wasn't very popular. That movie got me into the early Chevelles. I remeber seeing it on TV when i was just getting into cars.
Here's a link if interested. I wish I could get a copy on DVD.

well i read this entire thread looking for a reference to a movie i saw parts of on hbo or something a few years ago with no luck. i would estimate that the movie would have been made in the late 80's early 90's. actually i saw sections of the movie more than once but never from the beginning. anyhow it is i believe a 70 ss el camino driven by a hot blonde, she picks up some guy, they are chased by bad guys, at some point in the movie she goes out to the desert to see her father and trades the el camino out with him for some other car to try and fool the bad guys. i remember it because there is one of those continuty problems in the movie where after they had changed into the other car there is a scene where they are looking thru the windshield and you can clearly see the cowl and white stripes from the el camino. cant remember the actors or the name of the movie but the camino is in the movie quite a long time and the blonde and the guy get it on in the car/truck. looks pretty awkward as there wouldnt be much room there. if you owned one you would know what i mean. does anyone have any idea what this movie might be?

The Exterminator - early 80's movie, the punk kids had a 68-9 SS w/ a flame job, and if remember it gets totaled. Pretty wild filck for the time. On another note, was there a 71-2 with a hood scoop jacked up in one of the Smokey & the Bandit movies, like II or III? lol...spanky spangler!, (<<idiot stunt guy, great moniker though) he always uses chevelles...the best car movie is "hollywood knights" tons of cars, a young, hot (and in short, shorts which alone cancels out all of tony danza's appearance) michelle phiefer and a not so completly annoying fran dresher, pretty funny too

american grafitti is another must see classic and just the sound of that big block chev pulling hard off in the distance is worth the price of admission bonus: you get to hear harrison ford drawl in reply to toads "noboby beats john milner!"..... "i aint nobody, dork"
american grafitti II is a total waste of celluloid and 90 minutes of your already too short life that you're sure to regret you'll never get back, i still cant believe they were both made by george lucas...apparently his contract required another production while he was aleady off in deep space dreaming up star wars

one tv show ive never seen mentioned is "bewitched", chevy must have been a big sponser because i remember one episode where samantha has to go to some ladies knitting meeting or something and all the hens pull into a parking lot at the same time and i couldnt believe it...they were all driving classic chevs, ss chevelles, camaro's, nova's and a vette i believe, it looked liked reggie jacksons ex's, girlfriends and wives all rolled up to some bank at the same time....and, anyone catch the recent episode of "malcolm in the middle" when his parents steal a blue and white chevelle and try to run off to mexico?...raoul and conchita, too funny
i love bewitched they own like 20 chevys in one season all convertibles.they have a 67 camaro ss/rs. a 68 camaro rs. a really nice blue 65 velle.and then they end up with a corvair.:noway: and i saw a rerun of nightrider were theres a car club the episode starts with a street race with two really nice 55 chevys. then at the car club there a 68 elky and i think a 64-65 velle but i cant remember.

I can't think of any other movies with Chevelles than have already been posted. I do have one complaint though. I can understand movies from the 60's, 70's, and even early 80's crashing these cars, etc., as they were just "used" cars at the time. But it is beyond me that someone would take a classic like that now in 2008 and destroy it in a movie. Unfortunately you still see it. Why can't they destroy a 99 mustang?

There's a movie I remember watching on TV back around 92 or 93 I'd guess (I was about 10 or 11 at the time) The main character was a detective and drove a butternut yellow '69 SS396 Chevelle... he was shot at, lost control and spun into oncoming traffic and was T-boned by a truck. His girlfriend riding with him was killed in the crash.

When the car was crashed, it turned into a 68. :o I never saw how the movie ended because Dad needed help in the barn. It still bugs me because I was really into it, but never caught the name. :clonk:

The TV show "unhitched" the other night had a pretty nice '72 Chevelle convertible that one character was learning to drive in. For some reason they installed a Chrysler-type parking brake pull handle (I guess for effect). When I froze the frame you can clearly see the correct parking brake pedal and release handle on the left and then this ratcheting pull handle bolted to the right dash bottom and it was not connected to anything!
