hey guys, i have a question concering the power i want to make with the motor i am currently building.

Car:
70 chevelle
3200 9" stall/ 400 turbo
355 12 bolt posi

i have the short block already built with stock steel crank and stock rods with arp bolts in both. Srp pistons (10 to 1 with 118 cc) 454 2 bolt main block 60 over. balance assembly

I want to achieve the 600hp mark or right at it with this motor. Im lookin at the merlin 320 heads, anyone had any experience with these heads? if so....good? bad? The cam im lookin at is a crane hydro roller 632 632 lift 244 256 @ 050 with 114 lobe sep. ill top it off with a single plan of some sort. Its not gonna see much track time but will everynot and then. It will mainly be a street car to take out into town on the weekends and a road trip 3 or so times a year. I havent built a motor with this kind of performance in mind and im wandering if my hopes are realistic and the street manners of this combo? My last motor was very mild 420ish hp and 520 torque 454 but i drove it everywhere and it ran good. Any comments will be great...thanks:)

600hp with a 355 on the street????? My thoughts are, get a 454 if you want that kind of streetable power.

Dreis he states he is using a 454 that is .060 over.

I would look at brodix or afr for your heads, I have not heard alot of favorable comments on merlin heads. Maybe the afr 315's.

The "355" reference is the rear gear ratio.

I think the Brodix Race Rites (search member Bob West) or the AFR 305 w/cnc chamber option would be a good match.
A 320cc head is a little too big, IMO.
If interested, contact TC member here "Wolfplace" for great pricing on either head recommended above.
