: 67 inner fender well mounting

I feel stupid to have to ask this question. It came up after I received a replacement front inner fender well (skirt) for my damaged original.

On the front portion of the panel, where it bolts to the radiator support, do the "clip nuts" attach to the inner fender or to the radiator support? In other words, does the inner fender mount above or below the lip of the radiator support. I can find no explicit details in the assembly manual.

My car has been an Erector Set for several years. My instinct told me that the clip-nuts go on the rad. support. The replacement inner fender had them mounted on it. One of us is wrong.

Thanks,
Phil

BTDT! I just did this myself last week (also a 67), had the same question, and fortunately my neighboor has an assembled El Camino that I looked at. The answer is... nuts go on the Fender, which sits on the rad support. Bolts come up from below.

Phil, its not a stupid question, I had to go out and look at mine. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Anyway the nuts go on the fenderwell, and the fenderwell sits on top of the radiator support. The bumper filler panel uses these holes also and goes underneath the radiator support. Hope this helps.

As one of the clueless newbies around here, I was eager to (finally!) offer some advice back.

Great guys, thanks. It all actually fits together pretty well the other way. But who am I to second guess mechanical engineering decisions made 30 years ago. I will happily put it together the way that they intended.
Thanks again,
Phil
