I am getting ready to put new bushings on my 70 Chevelle. I want to get rid of the rust I have and make sure I don't ever get it again. I saw an ad in Super Chevy about Resto Motive Laboratories POR-15 that's suppose to stop rust permanently. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it and how well it works.

Do a search in this forum on "POR-15". You will find more discussion about this product than you have time to read. My take on it is that most have good things to say about it. As with all finishing products, using it as directed is a the key.

I will be using it to finish the storage compartment in the bed of my Elky this weekend.

Sandblasted the entire compartment, removed all old sealer.
Clean it with Marine-Clean, and condition it with Metal-Ready before applying the POR-15.

Only EVERYBODY at TEAM CHEVELLE http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif There are other products that work similarly so you need to do some research. Go to the top of this page & click on search . Enter POR15 & you'll get plenty of ideas. Pay particular attention to the warnings/cautions. Also they have a web site: www.por15.com (http://www.por15.com)

I've used it with good results.

it's good that it stays with you, though. For those 2 weeks you will most definitely not rust! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif

It also DOES NOT come off eye glasses! I got some overspray on my glasses and had to buy a new pair. That sure drove the price of the project up quickly! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

best stuff money can buy, painted entire frame on my car, did it with a brush and it looks like it was sprayed on.make sure you get their solvent or you will never get the paint off of your hands, takes forever to wear off.

Just make sure you follow the directions carefully. I'm pretty happy with the stuff--did my rear window area on my '70 with POR-15 Silver.

And don't do like I did and get in a hurry to apply the second coat. I talked to the area distributer and he told me what I was doing wrong. You have to wait a minimum of eight hours to apply a second coat, with NO sanding between coats. I was rushing it a bit and got some streaking and bubbling. On my next project, I did exactly as the guy said, my stuff turned out great.
It's a great product, just follow the directions to the letter.

You can order a sampler kit for something like ten bucks. It comes with a small jar of POR15, a small bottle each of Marine Clean and Metal Ready, two paintbrushes and a pair of latex gloves.

That paint goes a LONG way. I used the kit to paint the driveshaft, two coats, and had about a third of the jar left over.

Hey Moose,

Welcome to the site. Lots of folks here with experience with POR. I used it after sandblasting. The directions do not require the metal prep after sandblasting, so that saves some time and money. It provides the perfect surface to adhere to flows to a smooth finish with just a brush. I topcoated mine with spray Krylon to make it easy to touch up as I plan to drive it a lot. The best thing is as said above, read all the literature and make a plan for your project. Let us know if you need any help at all.

Acetone will clean it off your skin while it is still FRESH. Use the foam mini rollers for a sprayed on look and less splash. It will get thousands of mini bubbles at first but they roll out flat as the paint starts to "tack". It took a little over a quart to do the frame on my 69 SS.
