How many of you have done minitubs on El Caminos? I've been rolling the idea in my head for a while for my '67. Do the framerails need to be notched at all or does minitubbing just allow tire clearance to the frame. Just want to hear some experiences, thanks.

as for notching the frame, that is only relative to how much you want to increase the room... for the "mini-tub" you could just widen the inner wheel housing to increas the size, but the frame would still limit the ultimate tire size, or you could do both the frame and wheel well to gain even more room.
But you might also run into clearance problems with the lower control arm...

So really, you need to determine your wheel and tire combo to see if it is necessary or possible to do a mini-tub. And if that work will require modifying both the frame and wheel well...

Since the wheel well is curved at the top, often a lowered car will need the work here, but not necessarily the frame notch...
