I'm getting ready to put the body back on the frame of my 70SS and when I compared the old (original) body bushings to the new ones I noticed the new ones are about 1/4 inch thicker than the originals in the area where it's "sandwiched" between the body and the frame. I bought the new bushings from Ground Up a few months ago and they seem to be good quality pieces. My first thought is that after 30+ years of the body weight on the old bushings, they probably compressed 1/4 inch or so.
My search on the subject gave me a lot of great tips on techniques for lowering and aligning the body to the frame but I didn't see anything about body bushing thickness Has anyone noticed the same thing and is it anything to be concerned about?

Only 1/4? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif I had some that seemed twice as thick. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif I think that's exactly what it is. I wasn't sure what a difference it makes, but man, I really could tell the first time I drove it after the new bushings.......

Having just gone thru this very procedure, I wouldn't be concerned. My body bushing kit came from Ground Up for my 72 Chevelle SS 2-dr coupe. Included the bolts too. Everything lined up perfectly, and the thickness of the bushings didn't create any problems. Check out the body-lowering pics on the site listed below in my signature.

Thanks for the replies and the pictures. I think I'll hang on to the compressed bushings in case I ever decide to build a lowrider. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
