I’m doing some modifications to my cracked up old 70 dash pad because I have more time than money right now. I fiber glassed underneath where the stereo speakers where (I’m not interested in stereo) to strengthen the over all pad. I’m experimenting with different materials to smooth out the perforated right and left corners. My question is - what can I use to lay or roll over the non cured material(s) to get that correct textured look?

You can get some Madrid grain vinyl from an upholstery supply shop and recover the dash pad...or your best bet is to buy a plastic dash cover that fits perfectly over the old pad and makes it look new again. You'll probably need two yards of vinyl which'll run you about 25-30 bucks or the dash coverlay costs about 110... I believe the manufacturer of those is called Coverlay...I'll try and remember to double check this for you tommorrow...The Coverlay really is the best way to go outside of a new dash pad...they install super easy just put a few drops of silicone here and there and put it in place...

Thanks ‘70 Gold Nugget’ – Your help got me where I needed to be. After you mentioned Madrid grain ( I have never heard that before) I searched for Madrid grain pattern and that returned a link from Doc Marten shoes. That got me thinking so I checked out mine and thay are different but my wife has some cheep sandals that she wears on our boat and the soles on them are PERFICT!!
