12 volts with a 30 amp in-line fuse and you should be fine......

On all of the power seats I've wired for street rods I have had either one wire that went to the fuse block or two wires (one that went to the fuse block and the other to ground). It didn't matter which way the positive and negative was wired to the seats and if I had them backwards the switch instead of making the seat go forward would make it go backwards. The switches on the seat's I've done do nothing but apply power and ground to a motor to make it spin one way and when the switch is flipped the other way the power and ground are reversed and the motor goes the other way.
Always use the proper sized fuse or breaker when testing something electrical. If you are using a car battery to test things and you have just charged it be careful of any fumes that may ignite if a wire connection arcs.
