Ok heres the scoop! Ive had my Chevelle for almost 5 years now. Ive replaced the engine (SB to BB) converted it to a 4 speed, replaced the floors, fenders, interior, wheels, tires, suspension (global west) you get the picture! I have had so many close calls in this thing, about 1.5 yr ago the bolt stripped itself on the upper driver side ball joint and my wheel came off and got stuck under the car... needless to say I went screaching across 4 lanes to the left... NO cars on the road... took about 4 hours to get my car home (6 miles) AAA had sent a driver that couldnt figure it out... with suspension dangling... today I was coming back to work from the bank... and this was another close call... the BRAND NEW linkage I installed for my clutch pedal snapped off... I was stuck in 3rd gear with the pedal just floating there! I zipped through traffic in 3rd gear and flew into this parking lot and made it into an empty spot... not to mention the times people have hit me and other scary tales! What I am getting at... I dont feel safe in my car anymore, its not convinient... could I actually part with it? Maybe I should pull the engine and sell it, buy a newer car... just store the chevelle for a while... whats a mildly hot 461ci go for? What would you guys do?

I agree with the folks above. We've all had our share of fixing. That's part of the hobby. Don't give up. Sounds like you've done a great job on your ride. Take a 'winter' break and do some work on it. By spring, you'll love it again.

I agree.
That's all part of the "fun" driving these old cars.

I've had some wierd stuff happen to me over the past few years. Escaped a lot of other potential issues by doing preventive maintenance and looking things over closely. Don't assume things always stay tight, these ground pounders shake nuts and bolts loose. They didn't have that kind of power from the factory.

Like the others said, step back and take a break for awhile. Where else can you have this much fun with your clothes on. :D

Jeeps are hit and miss, either you get a good one you never have a problem with, or you get one that blows up a few months down the road. I sold my 454 dually and my BB 4-speed Nova to buy a newer Jeep Wrangler. LOADED! I drove it for four months and threw a rod through the oil pan. A friend of mine has a Jeep Cherokee with the same motor, he beats it unmercifully and never had a problem. Luck of the draw, I guess.

(I sold the Nova to my Dad and was able to buy it back from him a few months ago.):D

Dont sell the car, even new/newer ones can have problems that can freak you out. Clutch slave cyls blowing (same effect as your linkage going), steering columns and random wheels locking up, roofs flying off (yes), goes on and on.At least yours is paid for and you can fix it.

Well just think if you sold it, decided to buy another one, what it would cost to replace what you have.

keep it, you will regret selling it.

my other daily when the chevelle and the sonoma are down, is a 96 grand cherokee with the 4.0l. its definatly not a bad truck at all. i love jeeps as much as chevy's. they are a hit and miss type deal.
i know kids who beat the living day-lights out of their jeeps, and they still chug, and others who drive nice, and they break.

good luck man, and dont get rid of it.

The many jeeps I've taken in on trade at my dealership all feel kinda the same. They feel heavy and sluggish and poorly finished. I go drive a Yukon or a Tahoe, no comparison. Park the Chevelle for a while. It's not going anywhere. Buy a little ricer and beat the bag off of it. Once you get tired of driving a 98hp deathtrap, you'll want back in the Chevelle. Just like madhooker says, nothing feels as good to work on and gives you a reason for some quiet personal time.

Your ride, but if you sell it as a knee jerk reaction, I think you'll regret it.

I would keep it and deal with the problems. Earlier this year I sold my 65 SS and I regret it everyday. Sure it needed work and a frame replacement but it was what I wanted and still want. I ended up selling it to pay some bills and did`nt have the cash to buy another car. My buddy had this 67 el camino and let me make payments. It needs a ton more work than my 65 did and it doesn`t even run yet. I`ve tried selling it several times but I`ve faced the facts that I`m stuck with a beater because I did`nt keep my very first 65 years ago. I got nobody to blame but myself and hopefully you won`t have to blame yourself for doing something stupid like selling your chevelle.

Better to die in the Chevelle than live to drive other cars.

I looked into those untill I saw a report from AAA that said that they were the vehicle MOST towed by their service. I then bought a toyota Highlander for a DD.

Phil,

If you can, try going to a dealer and get one of those $99 down $99 a month deals. If it's a lemon at least you have some recourse.
