Does anyone here do foster, respite or emergency placement care for kids?

My wife is interested in doing it, and I would be open to it. We have 2 of our own already. My wife already works with kids at a children's hosptal (14 years) and would probably stay on 1 or 2 days a month there, but otherwise is looking to be able to stay at home with our kids and still earn a decent livng working with kids.

We have a 16 year old that comes once a month and have been thinking of doing it full time. We have friends that do it full time and they only care for Fetal Alcohol kids. The girl we look after is also FAS. One thing I would recommend is that you carefully choose the kids you take based on your own childrens ages and needs. They are the first priority but it can be a great way for someone to stay home when it may not have been possible otherwise. Pay ranges greatly as well depending on needs of the child and whether it is a government agency or private agency. For your info pay here ranges from $700-$5000 a month per child tax free.

WOW! I have to tell my aunt to move to Canada. She has been working with foster kids all my life(37 years). She lives in Florida and adopted her last 2 a few years back. While she was "actively" taking kids in, I think the pay was about $15 a week per kid! Even with the 2 she adopted, she is supposed to get state paid health care but it's almost an act of Congress to get them to pay most of the time.

Thanks to who has responded in PMs as well as here. We definately would look for younger than our current kids, and would probably look into medical needs, since my wife has the training and ability.
