: Another trunk paint question

I have been looking at some of the members pictures of their car and have decided I should use the splatter paint also. Right now the trunk is a semi gloss black. Can I just use the splatter over that or does the base have to be a lighter color? I assume from researching here there are different colors of splatter available. What is the correct color for a 65? Researching also advises a clear coat over top correct?

Thanks

Jerry

Don't know the correct color for a 65 trunk, but I've sprayed spatter paint right over black painted trunks before, and yes,you do want to clear it,because if it gets wet, you'll have spatter paint soup, and that ain't nice :D

Hello-
I, also will be painting my trunk, hopefully in the Spring. I have a 1970 L-48 Nova. My question is.......why in the world do they make trunk paint like this? I want to do a good job....certainly don't want a "soupy mess".

A lot of guys have recommended the Eastwood kit.....so I guess that's what I'll buy.

Thank you-

Hello Jerry. Canadian built chevelles are different than US cars in that canadian cars had the interior trunk and firewall, engine side, sprayed body color. Not sure if Canadian baumonts did the same. US cars used the trunk spatter paint. If you want, I will read my Year ONe book that describes the color for the 65 trunks spatter paint. I think it was blue grey color.

Some cdn built cars had body color trunks ... not all even on same model same year, some had spatter paint .... is yours a late or early 65 ? and cdn spatter trunks were not the same color as the corresponding year us model .. if you don't care about correctness and want spatter go with Zolatone black Onyx ..black grey ...if yours was spatter in late 65 pbly grey / aqua

I am not looking for 100% correctness. My baby was delivered early January 65. I would just like a splatter that looks right. I was more concerned over applying the splatter paint over the black I have there now.

Thanks for your help guys
