I need to take out my antennae. It is mounted in the front fender. Any tips...I want to put in a electric one. The one I have is a pain in the butt with the car cover.. Thanks

i replaced my antennae and assiciated parts a couple years ago, so here's how it went, if i remember correctly..... to get the antennae off, you have to take the fender off, since the area under the fender isn't accessible with it on. the antennae goes through the hole in the top of the fender (the cap that threads down the antennea and holds the body of it to the fender, as well as holding the antennae in the body, is on the outer part of the fender) then there is a retaining block on the underside that keeps the antennae from coming through the top of the fender when the fastener cap on the outside is tightened. then, the antennae cable runs into a hole in the top side of the firewall right below the antennae hole in the fender, then into the interior. i hope this makes sense... it's very easy to see once you have the car in front of you. if you undo the antennae with the fender still on, there's a chance that the cable etc. will fall inside the firewall. i had this happen, and it wasn't fun to get it out. then, installation is basically the reverse... install the antennae to the fender, then put the fender back on the front.

if anyone knows an easier way to do this.... i'd like to hear it as well, since when i did mine, i had the whole front end off anyways to re-finish all the supports, suspension, motor, etc... ..... good luck.

I guess the new electric antennae will go in the rear quarter. I don't think you have room to run one in the front fender. I just picked up a hidden antennae for another car I'm building. Looks just like a speaker wire and has an antennea plug on it..........supposed to work fine. We will see.
Can't you pull the cowl panel and get access to the antennea with the fender on?

I got to mine after I pulled off the a/c blower box on the firewall.

I didn't do any antenna work the last time I had mine off, but I recall there was a rubber divider between the cowl and the fender. Removing the divider should give you access. Will a new electric antenna fit?
