Well, I've looked at the engine stampings on the block (small block) and it reads:
19R007929 TO924HV
I'm assuming that the first set of numbers is the partial VIN of the car that it came out of. From the sources I can find, the last part is the facility and date.
The mystery to me is the HV portion. I'm getting conflicting info. One source says it's a '65 model 327 and another says it's a '69 350. Anyone got any idea which one is right...if any?:) Any guesses as to what it came out of?
Thanks,
Bill

Seeing as how the partial VIN is for a 69 passenger car out of Arlington, I'd go with the 69 350/255hp w/TH350. :)

Just checked my motor book published 1974 covering years 1967-1974...no HV code...every other H? code you can imagine though...HW,HX,HY,HZ were Vette blocks 1969...apparently HY was used in other cars as well...hope it helps...sounds mysterious to me...

Would be super duper sweet were it a high HP 65 block....

Colvin's "Chevrolet by the numbers" book, 1965-1969. Page 49, engine suffix codes. HV - Passenger, 350cid, 255hp, TH350 transmission. VIN derivative is an added bonus, big cars started with sequence number 000001, page 13. ;)

Dale...does Colvin's date the engine as 1969? This book I have is an ancient Chilton's Domestic Book...I am not wanting to argue I am just curious...there are some strange things about this book I have...but it is old and it is cool...you oughtta see the year identification pics it contains...

19R007929 CON VIN proves its from a 1969 full size car Impala etc
1 - Chevrolet Division
9 - 1969 model year
R - Arlington Texas assembly
007929 - Production serial number for full size cars
TO924HV
T - Tonawanda Engine Plant
09 - Sept
24 - day of month
HV 1969 Full size passenger 350-255hp RPO LM1, TH350 trans and 4-bbl carb
PS-Many of the books contain errors and omissions. My info is from a GM publication. The CON VIN trumps any list that puts this as something else in a different year. The con vin would be enough to put you in prison for possession of stolen property, if it was so. That how they prosecute thiefs.
