: Which red do you like best ?
jfman Nov 30th, 06, 2:07 AM I want a pick red for my 1970 chevelle. I want a red that is darker and richer than the original red. I have been driving around new car lots just shopping for a car color.
Now I'm torn between 2 reds.
Crimson red - pontiac G6

Salsa red - Volkswagen beetle

I wanted to make this a poll but I managed to screw it up :clonk:
Mr69 Nov 30th, 06, 2:58 AM If I had to pick--salsa.
Honestly, neither one.
Go with the factory Cranberry Red.
mad hooker Nov 30th, 06, 3:24 AM hmm i like both both the salsa red makes it look darker...like evil in some way,....go to the dark side!

Amen.
hmott Nov 30th, 06, 8:30 AM I like the g6 color in the picture better. But you can't tell a color from a picture.
67shovel Nov 30th, 06, 8:35 AM I'd go factory if your that close anyway...........it just looks right. Esp. after looking at the right color red for the last 36 years a different color may only look good to you.

1995 or ;96 catty garnet red metalic...
go look at it an a bodyshop or paint store chip book...
you'll be in love
Bowtie-72 Nov 30th, 06, 10:52 AM Since you DON'T want like original, go with the bug. The G6 is pretty close, and you'll never hear the end of how the paint isn't the correct shade. The darker make it look intentional.
jfman Nov 30th, 06, 12:18 PM The Cranberry red OFTEN comes out too pale, almost orangish. No way I'll go with that. And for the record. The car was originaly blue and the last thing I am concerned with is being true oem. It's a pro-touring project with not much left from the factory besides the frame and body.
curly Nov 30th, 06, 12:35 PM G6 Crimson Red  .
bdss396 Nov 30th, 06, 12:38 PM Of the 2, I like the crimson red from the G-6.
eyewanta65 Nov 30th, 06, 12:39 PM Crimson. Mine is regal red, it's fairly dark.
Xtreme70SS396 Nov 30th, 06, 1:51 PM Funny, my Cranberry Red Code 75 is dead on to spec.
I noted the color is almost identical to the Pontiac.
Might as well do it right if it's that close.

amen, i hate when the red looks orange...i hate orange (cept for the engine)
cuisinartvette Dec 1st, 06, 1:34 PM Ive always liked dark rich reds. THe brighter orangy reds (Gm's Torch red) always looked like butt to me.
pgustavson Dec 1st, 06, 8:32 PM I like the darker one. My car (or what's left of it) is a very orange-leaning red now, but I'm planning to go with a darker shade - a little more blood, lot less orange. If I chicken out on the red then maybe back to the original Madiera Maroon.
Jim Mac Dec 1st, 06, 9:10 PM how about Viper red?
jfman Dec 2nd, 06, 10:23 AM how about Viper red?
I'm only looking at cars I can easely find. Also red vipers are posibly 10-13 years old right now... I'd like to compare new care to avoid seeing a faded color and think that anew paint will look the same way. And the red that comes on the early vipers is not dark enough to my liking anyway.
brk65 Dec 2nd, 06, 2:23 PM This is what I went with. Actually burgundy.

jfman Dec 2nd, 06, 8:05 PM Nice but a little bit too brown.
smittyocat Dec 2nd, 06, 8:10 PM My first 69 was painted with a red from an 86 Blazer (cant remember the color name) it was very close to the original. I say go with what you like its your car and ultimately your decision. My Elky was originally Aztec Bronze, but I am going to repaint it (someday soon) using the orange color from the new chargers, why? because I like it. Just a thought
furball8994 Dec 2nd, 06, 8:15 PM Nice but a little bit too brown.

brk65 Dec 2nd, 06, 9:38 PM ooohh I like it
That is not that great of a picture. It was very overcast and late. That car really pops in the sun.
68bye Dec 2nd, 06, 10:36 PM Candy Branywine over a gold base coat, The most beautiful red there is.

My 68 in my signature is/was Viper Red. VERY nice color. it was a little oragne in certain lighting, but out in the day it really pops.

bowkevin Dec 3rd, 06, 10:01 AM I like the salsa. Mine is a dark red similar to candy. It is "carnival Red" A1997 jaquar color.
riridoll1 Dec 3rd, 06, 9:37 PM crimson is more vivid...suits the chevelle better
I saw a VW the other day and thought that is the red I want! It was very rich and dark with a lot of shine. So I pick that one!
