about to start getting estimates for a new exterior and just curious to see what others are paying. I'm looking to get a full sanding with new paint. Need a new vinyl top with a tunk panel installed. New weatherstripping installed. Hoping to keep it between 4000-6000 range max

To do it right, it has to stripped to bare metal. From there,it depends on how body work it needs. $ to 6000 is in the right ballpark.

here in town we have a body shop...... i had a RUST BUCKET..... around the windshield,in the backglass, fender wells rotted out front 1/4s gone ....... all that cut out new metal welded in and they used hardly ANY bondo... and they did all that for 2200 bucks and it costed me 200 more to have an auto glass company come and pull the front and rear glasses so they wouldnt be lible for that...... and on the quality........IT IS GREAT smile.gif  tongue.gif

Lots of rust repair and body work. BC/CC inside and out. Polished to perfection. I get to assemble all the pieces. $4800

Does doing your own bodywork and then having someone else paint it count?

Wow, glad i picked up a good hobby! bodywork and laying the BC/CC ran me approx $5-600 in materials. Thats stripping to metal, etch, 2k primer, diamont base/DC-92 clear.

The price you are trying to achieve will depend on a few things. The color, the paint line, and the amount of labor. $4,000 may seem like alot of money, but when a gallon of Clear (DC92 or DC5100) is well over a $125 just for the clear not counting the hardeners or reducers it will not take very long to add up. You could easily have a couple thousand just in good materials.
